Saddam Bites The Dust *UPDATED*

December 30th 2006

As most of you know by now, Saddam was executed last night in Iraq. Allah has a great round up of updates, as well as a video of the evil dictator walking to his death. The London Times has a 4 page obit that details in length the evil this man spewed upon the world, starting when he was young.
There is also the predictable response from the left, which is somehow still disturbing. The NYT’s John Burns says:

As I write this, flying hurriedly back to Baghdad from an interrupted Christmas break, Saddam makes his own trip to the gallows with an indecent haste, without the mercy of family farewells and other spare acts of compassion that lend at least a pretense of civility to executions under law in kinder jurisdictions. From all we know of the preparations, Saddam’s death was to be a miserable and lonely one, as stark and undignified as Iraq’s new rulers can devise.

The “indecent haste” is the biggest complaint the left can come up with, since none of them with any intellectual honesty could argue that Saddam did not deserve to be executed. Burns talking about “the mercy of family farewells” is actually ironic, since its been reported that Saddam’s half brother was hung along with him. I doubt there are many family left that would have shown up to his execution, even if they’d been allowed. Does Burns really think this murderer deserved anything better?

Gay Patriot has more links of lefties who are seriously messed up in the head (calling for George Bush to be executed?!), and I’ll link them since I can’t bear to put the actual links here on this blog.

From Allah:

[…] the more I watch it, the more it looks like a hit instead of a state execution

Also, Allah and Atlas have links to the full execution, if you are so inclined. I haven’t watched it yet, and I’m not sure I’m going to. Seeing his face as he walked up there, it was the first time he seemed even remotely human, but only for a fleeting second. I had a massive feeling of satisfaction and creepiness that swept over me that I’d prefer not to repeat for a long time.

*UPDATE*

I did end up watching the video, but honestly its almost impossible to hear what anyone is saying (obviously, since no one is speaking English), and the person taking the video has a hard time even keeping Saddam in the shot.  Seeing Saddam’s face close up (the video in wide release on Fox, et. al.) had a much bigger impact than this sketchy video from a cell phone.

Also, from Healing Iraq, we finally have a full translation of Saddam’s last words:

This should dispel all rumours and conflicting media accounts about Saddam’s last words and the reaction of the audience.

Saddam (as the noose is put around his neck): Ya Allah (Oh God).
Someone in the audience: Mercy be on those who pray for Mohammed and the household of Muhammed (Everyone repeats the prayer, including Saddam) -
Executioner and two people in the audience: … And hasten his return (the Mahdi), curse his enemy and grant victory to his son, Muqtada, Muqtada, Muqtada! (This is a common Sadrist chant.)
Saddam (smirking): Muqtada? Is this your manhood? (unclear)
NSA Muwafaq Al-Rubai’i: To Hell!
Saddam: (laughing) … disgrace to you. (unintelligible)
Prosecutor Munqidh Al-Far’awn: Please, no.
Muwafaq Al-Rubi’i: Longlive Mohammed Baqir Al-Sadr!
Someone in the audience: To Hell!
Prosecutor Munqidh Al-Far’awn: No. Please, no. I beg you.
Saddam (solemnly recites the Shahada prayer): I witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Mohammed is the messenger of Allah. I witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Mohammed is the- (trap door is opened).
Audience: Prayers for Mohammed and the household of Muhammed.
Someone: The tyrant has fell. May Allah’s curse be upon him.
Someone: May Allah’s curse be upon him.
(commotion in the hall)
Someone: No. No. Stay back.
Someone: Leave him for 8 minutes, boys. Don’t take him down.
Someone: Everyone. Stay back. Everyone. Back.

There was no denouncing American and Persians after his last prayers, as this New York Times story says, but perhaps that was before he was led to the gallows.

It utterly disgusts me that Sadr’s supporters have infiltrated every level of the state, and that the witnesses, including Iraqi government officials, have made this look like a sectarian issue. They were doomed to repeat Iraqi history by hanging their former oppressor and labeling it as justice. In a perfect situation, Saddam’s execution would have united Iraqis, but thanks to the actions of the new Iraqi rulers, it will only serve to divide further. I doubt any of them will prevail as much as Saddam did, though.

It would have been much more respectful and civil if the US or one of its allies had done the execution, but then we’d once again be the bad guys.  Saddam did not deserve respect, but it would have benefited the whole world to have him just GO, with minimal circus.  Like a common criminal.  Seeing these supporters of Sadr (remember, Sadr is NOT our friend) taunt Saddam, then celebrate his death, doesn’t take away the satisfaction of Saddam being executed, but it does remind us that we have a long way to go in this battle on terror.

“Special-Interest” Immigrants Crossing Border at Will: Terrorist Connection?

December 29th 2006

Mark my words: If we get attacked, and we find out the terrorists crossed through the mexican border posing as illegal immigrant workers, there is only One person to blame for the ridiculousness and outright negligence of National Security and that is The Commander and Chief. The conservative base will never forgive the current republican party for this obvious offense to America’s national security.

Egyptian Muslims posing as Mexicans? Are you really surprised? With the border being so porous, it’s not a shock at all. Only a matter of time. Way to go President Bush for upholding the law and securing the border…

COLUMBUS, N.M. - On Sept. 5, a man calling himself Miguel Alfonso Salinas was apprehended off a deserted highway near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The agents discovered three Mexican migrants in the vehicle with Alfonso Salinas.

But what they discovered several days later made a far greater impression.

Alfonso Salinas was not who he seemed, according to U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security documents. He lied to the agents about who he was, where he came from and what he was doing.

It would take nearly a week of interviews with federal agents before Alfonso Salinas would give his real name: Ayman Sulmane Kamal, a Muslim born in Egypt - a country designated as “special-interest” by the United States for sponsoring terrorism.

Kamal’s case is not an isolated one.

Evidence of “special-interest aliens” using the Mexican border to gain entry to the United States has been kept secret from the American public, according to federal law enforcement agents, terrorism experts and critics of U.S. foreign policy with Mexico.

In 2005, the Border Patrol apprehended approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. illegally. Of those, 165,000 were from countries other than Mexico, and roughly 650 were, like Kamal, from special-interest countries, according to the Border Patrol.

The text of the Koran is undeniable. How can you be Muslim and still support our Constitution?

December 28th 2006

In Islam, all non-Muslims are called unbelievers or infidels. The treatment of the infidels in Islam is divided into two categories. The polytheists, pagans, idolaters and heathens have the choice of converting to Islam or suffer death. The Jews and Christians, whom the Koran calls people of the book, can retain their religion but on the sufferance of accepting humiliation and subjugation to Islam and payment of Jizyah (poll-tax) to the Islamic rulers [For more detail read this article: Unfettered Religious Freedom in Islam – A Fact or Fiction? - by Alamgir Hussain].

Now, let us have a closer look at what the Koran says about the infidels:-

  • Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them(2:191)
  • Make war on the infidels living in your neighboorhood (9:123)
  • When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)
  • Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax (9:29)
  • Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)
  • The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)
  • Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticise Islam. (5:33)
  • The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)
  • Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies
    (22:19)
  • Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)
  • The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)
  • Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)
  • Terrorise and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)
  • Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorise the infidels (8:60)

The Qur’an certainly proclaims that when the time is appropriate, Muslims must use force to convert the unbelievers to Islam. For the non-Muslims, the alternative to this is to pay the humiliating protection money (Jizya tax) or be killed (by beheading, of course). A militarily dominant Islam, without doubt, precludes the peaceful co-existence with the unbelievers if the Muslims have to abide strictly by the unalterable stipulations of the Qur’an.

This is why we see very few “moderate” muslims coming out and speaking against the violence. There is so much overwhelming evidence stacked against them not able to be “moderate” because of the fundamental belief’s of Islam.

Ethiopia shows the world how to fight Islamofascism *UPDATED*

December 28th 2006

It’s great to see Prime minister Zenawi take the fight to the enemy. He’s not afraid of all the political hoop-la. War is very ugly indeed, but necessary at times. Zenawi is showing the rest of the world, including the U.S. and Israel, how to engage the enemy. Use your military might to CRUSH the enemy. Take the will from them to fight. Overwhelm them to ensure complete and total victory. DO NOT hesitate like some have….. Ehud Olmert hesitated in the Lebanon war. Bush hesitated in Iraq. Let’s hope and pray that we will NOT HESITATE when we have to look the enemy in the eye and fight for our right to live and live as free men.

Tonight as we write this, Ethiopia appears on the verge of ‘crushing’ the Council of Islamic Courts (CIC) militias as invading forces rapidly approach the major city of Mogadishu.

The Islamists dreams of the CIC of a ‘Greater Somalia’ under shari’a law has all but gone up in smoke in the wake of bombings of Mogadishu’s airport by aging Mig aircraft of the Ethiopian Air Force flying virtually unopposed.

Ironically, this may be payback for the failed ‘Black Hawk Down’ incident that saw 18 U.S. airmen, Delta and Ranger force soldiers killed, 73 wounded and one captured in an unsuccessful U.N. humanitarian raid against warlords in October, 1993 in Mogadishu. The U.S. State Department announced its support for the Ethiopian operation and our military in the region may be re-supplying the invading force.

According, to Reuters news reports advancing Ethiopian forces estimate that more than 1,000 Islamist fighters have been killed and thousands more captured including foreign fighters.

Clearly, the U.S. which has air, naval, marine and special force assets in the region in neighboring Djibouti gave Ethiopian PM Meles Zenawi the ‘green light’ to attack the Islamist by defending the faltering secular Somalia government at the federal capital in Baidoa.

*UPDATE*

Ignore everyone else, Sheik Suley has the facts!

Leaders of the Islamic movement have said that the war is merely “entering a new phase.” The movement’s leader Sheik Mohamoud Ibrahim Suley told the Associated Press on Wednesday that “our snakes of defense were let loose, now they are ready to bite the enemy everywhere in Somalia.”

They may yet launch a guerilla war, but I don’t think Ethiopia is going to be particularly scrupulous in how they counter an insurgency. That might just backfire as well.

(Hot Air)

*UPDATE*

also from Hotair

Supposing Ethiopia and the TNG go on to win this fight, there’s a lesson in it for us and the rest of the West: Once you decide to fight, fight to win and don’t stop until you have. That’s not a military lesson, but a political one.

What we and the Israelis seem to lack right now, and which the Ethiopians apparently have, is the political will to win without worrying overmuch what the so-called internation community thinks. There is no Ethiopian equivalent of Joe Biden wagging a finger at the Ethiopian leadership over every little thing that isn’t perfect, and there is no Ethiopian equivalent of John Kerry comparing a days-old fight to Vietnam. And aren’t the Ethiopians lucky.

A Marine’s Notes

December 27th 2006

At The Corner, from Iraq.

On IED’s:

The biggest killer of all.

Most of the ready made IED’s [improvised explosive device] are supplied by Iran, who is also providing terrorists (Hezbollah types) to train the insurgents in their use and tactics. That’s why the attacks have been so deadly lately. Their concealment methods are ingenious, the latest being shape charges, in Styrofoam containers spray painted to look like the cinderblocks that litter all Iraqi roads. We find about 40% before they detonate, and the bomb disposal guys are unsung heroes of this war.

On the Enemy:

They use handheld GPS units for navigation and “Googleearth” for overhead views of our positions.

They are very careless with their equipment and the captured GPS units and laptops are treasure troves of Intel when captured.

They operate mostly in Anbar province (Fallujah and Ramadi). These are mostly “foreigners”, non-Iraqi Sunni Arab Jihadists from all over the Muslim world (and Europe). Most enter Iraq through Syria (with, of course, the knowledge and complicity of the Syrian govt.), and then travel down the “rat line” which is the trail of towns along the EuphratesRiver that we’ve been hitting hard for the last few months.

Most, however, are hard core terrorists from all the usual suspects (Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas etc.). These are the guys running around murdering civilians en masse and cutting heads off.

In the Baghdad area and south, most of the insurgents are Iranian inspired (and led) Iraqi Shiites.

Fun facts:

The enemy death toll is supposedly between 45-50 thousand.

The insurgent tactic most frustrating is their use of civilian non-combatants as cover. They know we do all we can to avoid civilian casualties and therefore schools, hospitals and (especially) Mosques are locations where they meet, stage for attacks, cache weapons and ammo and flee to when engaged. They have absolutely no regard whatsoever for inflicting civilian casualties. They will terrorize locals and murder without hesitation anyone believed to be sympathetic to the Americans or the new Iraqi govt. Kidnapping of family members (especially children) is common to influence people they are trying to influence but can’t reach, such as local govt. officials, clerics, tribal leaders, etc.).

The first thing our guys are told is “don’t get captured”. They know that if captured they will be tortured and beheaded on the internet.

About our troops:

[M]orale among our guys is very high. They not only believe that they are winning, but that they are winning decisively. They are stunned and dismayed by what they see in the American press, whom they almost universally view as against them. The embedded reporters are despised and distrusted. They are inflicting casualties at a rate of 20-1 and then see shit like “Are we losing in Iraq” on TV and the print media.

Bottom line though, and they all say this, is that there are not enough guys there to drive the final stake through the heart of the insurgency, primarily because there aren’t enough troops in-theater to shut down the borders with Iran and Syria. The Iranians and the Syrians just can’t stand the thought of Iraq being an American ally …

My favorite part? The bad guys use Google Earth to find the US positions, and I can’t even use Google Earth to find my house. Shouldn’t someone tell Google to shut off the cameras over Iraq?

MSM: Still Can’t Get It Right

December 27th 2006

Josh Trevino is guest blogging at Townhall, and has two posts up today that point to clear examples of how the MSM [mainstream media] is once again dropping the ball in their reporting of the Ethiopian/Somali war raging on in the African Horn. Trevino says:

[…] journalism fails where journalists fear to tread, and so we are reduced to reading propaganda releases from the opposing sides[…]

Thus media from Islamist-controlled Mogadishu cites as its only two sources the Islamists — and the International Committee of the Red Cross. And so we see in the Washington Post unsourced passages telling us: “Aid workers said … thousands of civilians battered by drought, floods and now by rockets and mortars continued to flee villages in droves.” Worse: “United Nations officials warned of a dire humanitarian crisis inside Somalia, while fears remained high that Ethiopia’s campaign could have disastrous consequences across the Horn of Africa.”

This is absurd on several levels, beginning with the implicit contention that Somali suffering is only now beginning, and that the conquering advance of the Islamists there did not itself bring some measure of woe.

[…] As if on cue, erstwhile UN functionary Salim Lone arises in the pages of the International Herald Tribune to blame the whole mess on America — and to declare that the cure for Somalia’s woes was the salutary embrace of a vicious Islam.

He goes on to explain how the press are failing to comprehend the worldwide fight against Islamofascism, which includes Somalia in a huge way. Thus, the Ethiopian attack is a “profoundly significant story”. What’s the press doing? “Handwringing”, and trying to get someone to step in and NEGOTIATE. Once again, the press and the lefties aren’t getting the memo that Ethiopia is doing just fine (read: kicking ass), and didn’t ask them for their two bit advice.

In the second post up today by Trevino, he articulates the motivations behind the lefty press, and specifically Matthew Yglesias:

As I have explained, this invasion began half a year ago, and is only now entering its latest phase, as the Ethiopians transitioned several days ago from a static defense of Baidoa to an active campaign of conquest. But because this transition has taken the pundit class by surprise — they don’t pay much attention, it seems, to things that are not shiny and loud — one gets a lot of comment that is the distilled essence of glib ignorance.

[…] it’s not about Islamism, less about patriotism, and still less about America: it’s about the relentless advancement of his political party — the opposition to which is, it seems, inseparable from the whole of his nation abroad.

He goes on to list several sources around the globe that are taking part in this lazy, partisan reporting. He also points out that one of the only accurate MSM reports comes from (brace yourself) The New York Times, who said:

The [Somali] Islamists came to power earlier this year as a grassroots movement that drove out Mogadishu’s warlords and restored a semblance of order to a city that was once one of the most violent on the planet. But the goodwill they earned is being sapped away by their decision to attack the transitional government and declare a holy war against Christian-led Ethiopia. That provoked a crushing counterattack by the Ethiopians, who have the strongest military in East Africa and have sided with the transitional government because Ethiopia views the Islamists as a threat to its own security.

Go read both posts, because you will be hard pressed to find much out there about this war that isn’t tainted. First post here, second post here.

sadaam set to die

Saddam pretends that he hasn’t already been sentenced to death (not by HIS choice), and that he didn’t already appeal the decision (and lost). From MEMRI:

In a message to the Iraqi people sent through his lawyers, following the confirmation of his death sentence, Saddam Hussein offered to sacrifice his head for the wellbeing of the Iraqi people, and warned against “the invaders and Persians.” One of his lawers, Jordanian Salah al-Armouti, told Al-Jazeera TV that Saddam would not appeal for mercy because such an act would be “contrary to his character.”

Source: Al-Jazeera TV (12/26/06)

This would be laughable, if this guy hadn’t slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people. I can’t wait for him to finally be off this Earth, forever banished to his fiery prison down below.

Kerry in Iraq: NOT Welcome

December 27th 2006

kerry in iraq
From the soldier that took this picture:

This is a true story…..Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops. What is amazing is Bill O’Reilly came to visit with us and the troops at the CSH the same day and the line for autographs extended through the palace and people waited for two hours to shake his hand. You decide who is more respected and loved by us servicemen and women!

And also… I’m not a huge Sean Hannity fan, but there’s no question about his patriotism and his support for the troops. Take a look at Hannity visiting the troops this week. This is a very moving video from Foxnews. It’s not getting enough airtime, in my opinion. There’s no question that the troops are glad to be doing what they’re doing.

Non-free Speech *UPDATED*

December 26th 2006

student protesting

This guy protested against Iranian president Ahmadinejad at his school, now they’ve released the hounds on him:

An Iranian student holds an anti-president placard, reading: ‘Fascist President, Polytechnich is not your place’, as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, unseen, speaks at the Amir Kabir Technical University, in Tehran, Iran, Monday, Dec. 11, 2006. Iranian students staged a rare demonstration against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday, lighting a firecracker and burning his photograph in the audience as he delivered a speech at their university, the state news agency said.

Apparently, about now there are some “vigilantes” looking for him. I’d be willing to bet my next check they’re government agents. This is a far cry from the imagined “persecution” that so-called “peace protestors” get here in America. In Iran people who protest are actually hunted down and murdered along with members of their family. The whiney hippies in America wouldn’t know persecution if it walked up and kicked them in the nuts.

From: One Angry Christian

*UPDATE* From MEMRI:

The website of the Iranian volunteer student militia, Basij, at Amir Kabir University in Tehran, posted photos and information on several students who had demonstrated during a speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The website also stated, “If the university does not deal with them, we will.”

Obviously, these students will have to go into hiding, leave their lives and run. All because they had the gall to protest. Apparently you not only die if you insult Islam, you die if you do anything at all the Islamics don’t like.
