MUST WATCH:Sailor Suprises Son At School

March 30th 2007

Just reading the description got me verklempt, but watching the video was almost unbearable (in a good way!) in its loving reunion of father and son. I couldn’t stop imagining my almost 5 year old when watching this little boy.

Sailor returns home from being Iraq for 7 months, and suprises son at school.

Video is at Hot Air and Jawa. As Allah says, and so will I, this is your massive hanky warning.

Iran Lies About Coordinates, And Then Lies Again After Being Caught Lying.

March 29th 2007

map of waters

This is almost comical:

The Iranians also blundered in diplomatic talks by giving the British their own compass reference for the place where they said the 14 men and one woman had been seized. When Britain plotted these on a map and pointed out that the spot was in Iraq’s maritime area, the Iranians came up with a new set of coordinates, putting the seizure in their own waters.

The speed and cunning shown by the Revolutionary Guards has raised suspicions that their action was premeditated. A senior military officer described it as “deliberate”.

So it probably went something like this:

Iranian Diplomat: The British Servicemen were seized by these coordinates right here. Look, it proves they were in Iranian waters!

British Diplomat: Um…sir? Those coordinates you gave are STILL in Iraqi waters, wtf are you trying to pull?

Iranian Diplomat: Oops!…um…Let me check, hold on…*crickets*…Ah yes, here are the REAL coordinates, those first ones we gave you were a mistake.

British Diplomat: So you expect us to believe that the SECOND SET of coordinates you’ve provided deems to be true?

Caught in the act, Iran changes coordinates on the British…Unbelievable

From the start, the Iranian Ambassador to London gave British diplomats a set of coordinates for the location of the confrontation.

Margaret Beckett, the Foreign Secretary, told the Iranian Foreign Minister that these compass points actually indicated a spot clearly in Iraqi waters. She tried to give Iran an exit route by suggesting that it might all be a misunderstanding that could be resolved by an immediate release of the captives.

On Monday, Iran surprised Britain by coming up with a “corrected” set of coordinates. “The two Iranian positions are just under a nautical mile apart, 1,800 yards or so,” Vice-Admiral Charles Style, a Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, said yesterday.

Mrs Beckett told the Iranian Foreign Minister that she could not accept the Iranians’ version of events. She told MPs in the House of Commons that it was “impossible to believe, given the seriousness of the incident, that the Iranians could have made such a mistake with the original coordinates, which after all they gave us over several days”.

Female British Marine “Clearly Coerced” Says Former POW

March 29th 2007

Sista already touched on this earlier with Iran refusing to release the female British Marine.

Also, today, a letter from one of the captured marines was received:

letter

To me, after watching the interview video and seeing the reaction of these marines, Iran seems to be feeding this information and telling them to regurgitate it or else…

Former captured Marine, John Nichol, who was shot down in 1991 and held captive during the first Iraq war says she was “clearly coerced” into writing a letter in which she apparently called for British troops to withdraw from Iraq.

It was wrong to attempt to second guess why Leading Seaman Turney might have written the letter because she was in a “parlous situation”, he added.

Mr Nichol told Sky News: “Faye was clearly coerced into making the TV broadcasts that we saw yesterday and today.”

“She was clearly coerced into writing the letter, and she was clearly coerced into writing the letter that’s been released this afternoon.

No serviceman or woman is going to volunteer to do that sort of thing.

No serviceman or woman is going to pick up a pen when captive and write to their dearly beloved MP. It’s a nonsense.

I don’t know what level of coercion was used, and in many ways it doesn’t matter.

But she was under duress when she wrote those things and said those things.”

And I just want to throw in Fred Thompson’s reaction:

The 9/11 attacks should have been a wake-up call to our allies — but they seem to have had a tranquilizing effect instead. Despite a series of both successful and thwarted attacks since then, Britain, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Germany, and Canada have actually cut their active-duty forces. And the percentage of those countries’ economies spent on defense was reduced over ten percent by 2005. Many are still falling.

Unlike much of Europe, which seems to have lost the will to protect itself and its democratic traditions, many of the new aggressors are increasing military spending dramatically. And many seem willing to sacrifice masses of their own populations if that’s what it takes to force the West into submission.Let’s be clear. Iran’s kidnappings are part of a plan to see that nothing interferes with its quest for nuclear weapons. If successful, other dictatorships will follow suit. This is not the time for the free world to neglect its own defense.Fred Thompson is an actor and former United States senator from Tennessee.

Iranian Sleeper Cells In The U.S.

March 29th 2007

Does Iran have a network of sleeper cells inside the United States that could strike us if we bomb their nuclear facilities?  In a word.  Yes.

From Pajamas Media:

The sleepers in the U.S. may number as many as 800.

This has been the consensus view for some time. There are “hundreds” of Hezbollah members here, a U.S. official told USA Today on May 13, 2003. A senior FBI official told the paper that some 20 potential Hezbollah cells are being investigated.

Senator Bob Graham reiterated to the Miami Herald on Nov. 13, 2002: “recent warnings that Hezbollah, backed by Iran and Syria, had a more established presence in the United States than al Qaeda, and was just as dangerous.”

Apparently they aren’t all “operational” cells, and many work on raising funds illegally (to send to Lebanon, etc.) while others work to research American weaknesses (malls, sports arenas, etc.) for future operations. Still, just as dangerous.

A bit of good news on this front though:

While Hezbollah may have a presence here, the U.S. is developing on their home turf. President Bush has authorized the CIA, in a “non-lethal presidential funding,” to covertly finance anti-Hezbollah groups in Lebanon, the terror group’s home base, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Even more evidence of the need for the John Doe Protection Act, I’d say.  Eyes and ears open, infidels.

Iran Not Releasing Female Hostage; Tensions Escalate

March 28th 2007

 kill hostage threat

After being quoted earlier today as saying Iran would release the female sailor they are holding captive, the Iranian FM Mottaki said he was “probably misquoted” and is now saying they will not release the female hostage. I did not mention their claims of releasing the hostage in my last post because I did not believe it would happen, and I figured we could discuss it here after it happened. I’m sad that my instincts were right on this one.

The Iranians are playing games, and are now saying that “maybe” talks will progress once the British admit they did something they didn’t do (cross into Iranian waters). Mottaki is finally saying that Iran has agreed to let someone (Turkish diplomats, woo freaking hoo) talk to the hostages, but I think we should think of this the same way as the “release”…believe it when we see it.

If that weren’t enough, there are now rumblings that Iran is going to put the hostages on trial for espionage. They are claiming the British intentionally entered into Iranian waters in order to spy. Never mind this is completely against the Geneva Convention, what’s even scarier is that if Iran does this, the hostages will most likely be found guilty and face the penalty for spying. Guess what that is? Yep. Execution.

Where are all the various global parties up in arms about the Geneva violations going on here? From Hugh Hewitt today:

The third Geneva Convention of 1949 prohibits “humiliating and degrading” treatment of POWs. Requiring the female Brisih [sic] sailor to appear in Islamic dress seems certain to me to violate this obligation. Agreed?

From Captain Ed today:

The Iranians cannot try the men for espionage if they captured the sailors in uniform. Article 46 of the Geneva Convention states this clearly:

2. A member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict who, on behalf of that Party and in territory controlled by an adverse Party, gathers or attempts to gather information shall not be considered as engaging in espionage if, while so acting, he is in the uniform of his armed forces.

What will happen? We know how crazy Iran is, but how stupid are they is another matter entirely.

Exit question courtesy of Jawa tonight:

While everyone is focused on this crisis, what is Iran doing that’s off the radar, so to speak? I smell….diversion.

Appalling: British Female Hostage Shown In Veil On Iranian TV

March 28th 2007

Take a good look Brits, this may be your future:

hostage in veil

Its appalling and entirely unacceptable (anyone ever heard of the Geneva Conventions?) to show images/video of hostages on television, but I wonder if anyone in the UK will make a big deal out of this? Showing the one female hostage on TV, forced to wear a veil, forced to say they are guilty of trespassing into Iranian waters, and forcing her to say how awesome the Iranians are should be enough to enrage the Brits into action. We’ll wait and see what Blair, et. al. do, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for the appropriate response.

MEMRI has the video of the female sailor:

How can they be friendly and warm if they are holding her hostage? All it takes is one look at her face to know how she really feels.

From NRO:

Anyone remember that video of Saddam visiting the western hostages in the run-up to Desert Storm? Saddam made the bad mistake of sitting a British child on his knee; the child looked terrified, and the British public woke up the next morning ready for war.

Hot Air commenters are debating the issue of saying whatever the hostage wants, so you can be freed, and making sure you don’t embarrass your country or put other soldiers in harms way (which is the U.S. code of conduct, paraphrased). Obviously propaganda in favor of Iran harms soldiers, but how effective is this propaganda? Does anyone really believe anything she’s said has NOT been coerced?

From an interview with a British Admiral, via Neo-Neocon:

These particular people would not be trained in counter-interrogation techniques because they are not expected to be captured. But I think our guidance to anyone in that position would be to say what they want you to say, let’s not be silly about it. Don’t tell them secrets, clearly, but if they tell you: ‘Say this’, well if that’s going to get you out, then do it. It means absolutely nothing, what they say, to be honest.

Its hard to watch the female sailor saying the things she’s obviously only agreed to say in order to gain freedom, but it is understandable none the less.

Finally, this letter to the London Times today, via NRO:

Having served with the Royal Navy in the Gulf, during peacetime and war, I wish to express my anger and frustration regarding the situation that has been allowed to develop with our kidnapped Service people in Iran. If, as now seems apparent, we are putting our people in harm’s way with no commitment to back them up should things take a turn for the worse, then we should cease the policy of stop-and-search in the Gulf immediately. At the time of the abduction, HMS Cornwall must have been aware of the approach of the Iranians, using her onboard sensors and those of the Lynx helicopter which was on the scene at the time. Yet apparently no effort was made, either by the heavily armed warship or the Lynx, usually armed at this time with light and heavy machineguns, to protect their sailors or prevent their capture. I know that the Marines would have hated to have given up, and would only have done so because they were directed to by their own commanders. This is another example of this Government’s willingness to commit our people to dangerous operations without the backbone or even the means to back them up.

John Doe Protection Act

March 28th 2007

Great Video from Hotair today over “The Protect John Doe Act” passed by Congress today protecting “John Doe’s” rights when reporting suspicious actiivity.  Click the image to watch

This from MM’s Blog:

Dear Muslim Terrorist Plotter/Planner/Funder/Enabler/Apologist,

You do not know me. But I am on the lookout for you. You are my enemy. And I am yours.

I am John Doe.

I am traveling on your plane. I am riding on your train. I am at your bus stop. I am on your street. I am in your subway car. I am on your lift.

I am your neighbor. I am your customer. I am your classmate. I am your boss.

I am John Doe.

I will never forget the example of the passengers of American Airlines Flight 93 who refused to sit back on 9/11 and let themselves be murdered in the name of Islam without a fight.

I will never forget the passengers and crew members who tackled al Qaeda shoe-bomber Richard Reid on American Airlines Flight 63 before he had a chance to blow up the plane over the Atlantic Ocean.

I will never forget the alertness of actor James Woods, who notified a stewardess that several Arab men sitting in his first-class cabin on an August 2001 flight were behaving strangely. The men turned out to be 9/11 hijackers on a test run.

I will act when homeland security officials ask me to “report suspicious activity.”

I will embrace my local police department’s admonition: “If you see something, say something.”

I am John Doe.

I will protest your Jew-hating, America-bashing “scholars.”

I will petition against your hate-mongering mosque leaders.

I will raise my voice against your subjugation of women and religious minorities.

I will challenge your attempts to indoctrinate my children in our schools.

I will combat your violent propaganda on the Internet.

I am John Doe.

I will support law enforcement initiatives to spy on your operatives, cut off your funding, and disrupt your murderous conspiracies.

I will oppose all attempts to undermine our borders and immigration laws.

I will resist the imposition of sharia principles and sharia law in my taxi cab, my restaurant, my community pool, the halls of Congress, our national monuments, the radio and television airwaves, and all public spaces.

I will not be censored in the name of tolerance.

I will not be cowed by your Beltway lobbying groups in moderate clothing. I will not cringe when you shriek about “profiling” or “Islamophobia.”

I will put my family’s safety above sensitivity. I will put my country above multiculturalism.

I will not submit to your will. I will not be intimidated.

I am John Doe.

This Could Be The World War III Catalyst

March 27th 2007

It’s going to be a lot worse than people think. I think Iran will do a lot of damage around the region, and this will turn into something way bigger than just a few captured soldiers. We’ve talked about World War 3 and this may be it. Syria, Hezbollah and the Palestinians will most certainly initiate attacks against innocent civilians, and we may see Syria and Israel going at it, while Britain is attacking Iran, with the U.S backing both Israel and Britain, while Iran is fighting everyone at the same time through their outlets. (Hezbollah, Revolutionary Guard) Scary….

The U.S. is in the middle of a HUGE military demonstration that of the likes we haven’t seen since the pre-Iraq invasion of 2003.

The U.S. has been waiting; Iran has been waiting; Iran is provoking action right now and Blair is hesitating. He’s pushing for diplomacy to end this stand off but the Iranians see his weakness. The Mullahs see Britain’s Carter-esque character traits and remember full and well what happened in November 1979. They know they can get away with this politically with the Brits.

Why can Iran get away with this capture at this point in time?

Because they know the political left has taken over in Britain and most certainly will do anything they can to avoid war. Iran knows Britain will buckle because the Mullah’s see weakness in the enemy, and most likely made the call to approach and capture those 15 soldiers, on the idea that “Hey, it’s only Britain…they’re cowardly and we did cause we CAN”.

An obvious provocation of a fight if I’ve ever seen one. Will the U.S. back a British led Attack against Iran? Call me a war monger all you want, but we all know and see what’s coming so let’s quit denying it and stand up for ourselves and our Allies. I hope we give them what they want.
