A Message from a California School teacher on Illegal Immigration

Do you like this story?

Someone emailed this to me, I’m not sure where it came from, but i wanted to post it anyway:

From a California school teacher – - -

“As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I’m not talking a glass of milk and roll — but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud.  The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial.  I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them “Putas” whores and throwing things that the teachers
were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I’ll pay more for tomatoes.

There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to our country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about “politically correct” that we don’t have the will to do anything about it.

CHEAP LABOR?  Isn’t that what the whole immigration issue is about?

  • Businesses doesn’t want to pay a decent wage
  • Consumers don’t want expensive produce
  • Government will tell you Americans don’t want the jobs

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase “cheap labor” is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as “cheap labor.”

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour.  At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax,  yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax  Return,  he gets an “earned income credit” of up to $3,200 free.

  • He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
  • He qualifies for food stamps
  • He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care
  • His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
  • He requires bilingual teachers and books
  • He qualifies for relief from high energy bills
  • If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare.

All of this is at taxpayer’s expense

  • He doesn’t worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
  • Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
  • He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.

Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.

The American taxpayer’s also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.

Cheap labor?      YEAH RIGHT!       Wake up people

This has such an obvious tone of racism it pained me to read

  • hellosnackbar

So honest protest at wasting public funding is racism?
Your a victim of PC poison!
Now read it again;and understand that this lady is trying to correct an obvious wrong.
Look at my avatar it explains my frustration at the foibles of thick, halfwits like you.

It's funny that people with the least to say always resort to name calling (“halfwit”). I think you need to read the article again. I am not responding to her comments about wasting tax dollars per se, I think there is always room for better and more effective programs. I am responding to the tone of talking about these immigrant and poor children as the “other”. There is a subtext that these children are culturally inferior and that is indeed racist. She also needs to understand the global context of why there is the increasing influx of immigration from Spanish speaking countries. It is not as she says “Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?” It does have to do with the reality of neo-liberal trade and economic policy that has made it harder and harder to make a decent wage and feed their families in their native countries.

Listen, MEXICANS should only be protesting their OWN government, not ours. There was a lot of bloodshed to get this country the way that it is today and we are supposed to just hand it over? I suggest the MEXICANS take a stand against their own government and stop being pussies about it. It is the lazy approach and easy way out. If someone breaks the law and wrongfully crosses the border, do you want them living next door to you?

  • Chris

Im with Ripper27 on this one. Our Forefathers worked very hard to get this country where it is. On the other hand, I think it will take some more blood shed to get it back to where it needs to be. On the Mexican-Illegal immigration part of the comment you are very right ripper, they should stand up for what they believe in and get there country to be exactly like ours if thats how they want it. NOTHING WORTH HAVING IS FREE!!!!!!!! I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PRESSING ONE FOR ENGLISH, THIS IS AMERICA FOR CHRIST SAKE LEARN ENGLISH OR GO HOME (PERIOD)…

  • Luvdbygod

Whether you agree with this or not, you can't ignore the facts of the article. The author is not saying the illegal aliens can never be here, just not as illegal aliens. I can't go into another country without the correct documentation, so why should the illegals be able to come and go here without documentation. This is not only a money issue, which don't get me wrong as a tax payer I understand, but it is also a safety issue. This country has been targeted for destruction and we need to have these laws intact to keep us safe. There are ways to be legal here in this country and no it is not easy and yes it does take a long time, but so is anything worth having!!

  • hellosnackbar

I didn't read your reply KKSS ;but there's a world wide phenomenon the world over;whereby people from other countries infiltrate sophisticated economies and then have the bare faced cheek to demand cultural equivalence
at the same time sponging off the natives.
    Parasitism by another name.
Pakis in Britain are exactly that;they've gone one step further by blowing us up.
Cultural relativism is poisoning us all.
There's an old adage that people get the government they deserve.
Their culture is relatively primitive and education is lacking.
That's why they are termed developing nations.(a euphemism for lack of sophistication)
    Should we help them?
Well yes!but not at the expense of being taxed to death by moronic politicians.
And reducing us to economic pain.
If we don't do something then a new dark age will dawn,

  • Dwililams

I can't tell you how sick I am of hearing that Americans are “racist” because they want the immigrants to enter this country legally!! Shame on big and small business that hires “slave labor” because they don't want to pay a legal citizen a livable wage to work! I AM NOT A RACIST!! immigrants come to the USA to get and WORK for a better life-if you don't like the way your country is run, change it!! if you come to AMERICA to make a better life that obviously means you didn't like where you came from-ASSIMILATE-LEARN THE LANGUAGE-PUSH 1 for SPANISH not the other way around!! we have enough criminals born and bred, we don't need or want MEXICO's trash in the USA!! come to this country LEGALLY or don't come at all!!

  • Jhhendi

Of course. Anyone who is against illegal immigration is a racist. Go to a school where many of the kids are there illegally and see how overcrowded everything is. Maybe our country could be successful in education if the taxpayers didn't pay to educate those who are here illegally. And just so you know- I voted for Obama, and Governor Richardson in NM. Am I a racist? Get a life kkss.

  • Jhhendi

    Thank you.

  • Callmeroot

    Thank you! I agree.

  • Ampizza321

Sadly kkss it is easy to naturally lean towards name calling when you immediately focus your attention on the “racist” card. In addition to that, it is difficult to not label people who behave in a particular fashion. Her arguments start by labeling the behavior of all individuals in lower socioeconomic schools. She does not direct the arguments at any race or nationality. Then, further into the letter, she addresses illegal immigrants. Now, given that the largest number of illegal immigrants in America presently are Hispanic it is very common, and not racist, to use Hispanic in conjunction with the discussion of illegal immigrants. Yet the point is driven towards individuals who are living off of the hard-working taxpayers in this nation. To ignore that point is foolish and ignorant. I am tired of people discrediting legitimate arguments and overlooking the issues in this country by throwing the word racist around to make topics taboo.

  • Tonto

HONESTY is called racism now? Just you saying that and playing the racism card tells me all about the sad, sad state of your pitiful mind. If you can’t face the truth, then go crawl back into the socialist la-la land you crawled out of.

    READ PEOPLE!
oh and yeah… “It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about “politically correct” that we don’t have the will to do anything about it.” COMING FROM A TEACHER? C’MON NOW… IF THIS IS NOT RACISM, PREJUDICE AND A CONDESCENDING TONE, THEN WHAT THAT HECK IS IT????
BY THE WAY, THE MAJORITY OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE MEXICAN, BUT JUST SO YOU KNOW MEXICO IS NOT A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT =)

I hear the self appointed superiority of your words. Does anyone else believe you are higher on the morality ladder? other than your like minded individuals? I suggest YOU go to these schools and come up with better and more effective programs. I thought the school teacher was honest and fair in describing the conditions. You seem to just want to paint hello snackbar with a broad brush of ignorance. Some folks get pissed off when informed of a bad situation to such a degree, that they dispense with decorum, and then you come along and say it’s not free this and that. Like you’ve been there and done that. I seriously doubt that you’ve been groped on public transportation by the “Graduates” from the situation described, or been told in a threatening manner to “show some respect”, FOR WHAT, what positive thing have they done that warrant’s respect? Other than not breaking your arm and stealing your watch, money and your new i phone? Your belittling discourse only serves to embolden those who would refuse to adapt to lawful values and make a positive contribution to society. Yes they came from a cesspool of human values, does where they came from entitle them to continue to perpetuate this sewage they bring with them and continue to be leaders of depriving others of our country’s values are. NO, kkss, I think you come from another country, a country where the privileged self appointed elite stick their heads in the sand and hold those in contempt, those that would give voice to what the bare honest truth is and a desperate need to correct it,
