Israeli Air Force buying up the new F-35

August 31st 2007

f_35.jpg

Israel’s keeping up with the times in having one of the most powerful Air forces on earth

The general staff of the Israeli defence forces will soon decide how many F-35s will be purchased and establish a preferred delivery schedule. “We want this aircraft as soon as possible,” says a senior air force source.Other sources say Israel plans to sign a letter of agreement in 2009, with deliveries to start in late 2013 or 2014. Its initial order is expected to be for 25 aircraft, plus 25 options. However, with the Israeli-configured aircraft likely to have a higher price tag, the issue will be evaluated before a production contract is signed in 2010.

If your wondering what the difference between the new F-35 and the F-22 Raptor are:

The two aircraft are indeed difficult to tell apart, because they share similar wing and tail designs, as well as distinctive engine inlets beneath the cockpit. The differences are in capabilities, performance and materials. The F-22 Raptor, designed for the United States Air Force, is a twin-engine fighter intended primarily for air-to-air combat but also capable of attacking ground targets. It will be the stealthiest aircraft ever; thanks to new low-radar-observable designs and materials, engineers were able to lose the all-black, oddly shaped configurations of the F-117 Stealth Fighter and B-2 Bomber in favor of a more conventional design.

The Raptor, which should enter service in 2005, also features supercruise, the ability to sustain supersonic flight without the use of fuel-gulping afterburners.

The Joint Strike Fighter (F-35), meanwhile, is being developed in three different versions — for the Air Force, Navy and Marines. Expected to debut in 2009, it’s a single-engine aircraft that is optimized for ground attack. (The Marine Corps’ version will have vertical-lift capability, so it will be able to take off and land in extremely tight spaces.)

Another key difference: cost. The Joint Strike Fighter has a $35 million price tag, while the faster, stealthier Raptor will set the Air Force back $120 million apiece. In combat, though, the two won’t be so far apart. Future scenarios envision them working in tandem: The Raptor will knock down the door — taking out air defenses and radar sites — and then the Joint Strike Fighter will launch strikes against ground targets.

Iran’s Nuclear hourglass running out

August 31st 2007

Iran's nuclear hourglass.JPG

I was just thinking today about the strategic, military reasons we have not yet attacked Iran.

Our troops are in place, our forces are ready , so what are we waiting for?

Is Bush going to pass this threat on to the next Prez? I can’t see that happening, but for him to be waiting and waiting on what we all know is an inevitablity at this point, just doesn’t really make sense to me.

But hey, this is coming from a blogger who knows nothing about what’s happening in the White House. There could be tons of possibilities for us waiting.

I would like to get some people’s comments on this.

  1. Why have we not attacked Iran?
  2. What strategic implications do you think are holding us back from striking Iran?

We see scores of public threats from Iran, buildup of Carrier groups in the Indian Ocean, and an obvious strike looming, so what’s the deal? Why haven’t we attacked?

If you haven’t commented before, you can register here.

Thank you for your participation.

Rare story from UK: Positive outlook on Iraq

August 31st 2007

The Time Online has written a rare story out of Iraq that paints a positive outlook on The Anbar Province and especially the revival of Ramadi.  This is a great piece that everyone should read…

[…]

Ramadi’s transformation is breathtaking. Shortly before I arrived last November masked al-Qaeda fighters had brazenly marched through the city centre, pronouncing it the capital of a new Islamic caliphate. The US military was still having to fight its way into the city through a gauntlet of snipers, rocket-propelled grenades, suicide car bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Fifty US soldiers had been killed in the previous five months alone. I spent 24 hours huddled inside Eagles Nest, a tiny COP overlooking the derelict football stadium, listening to gunfire, explosions and the thump of mortars. The city was a ruin, with no water, electricity or functioning government. Those of its 400,000 terrified inhabitants who had not fled cowered indoors as fighting raged around them.

Today Ramadi is scarcely recognisable. Scores of shattered buildings testify to the fury of past battles, but those who fled the violence are now returning. Pedestrians, cars and motorbike rickshaws throng the streets. More than 700 shops and businesses have reopened. Restaurants stay open late into the evening. People sit outside smoking hookahs, listening to music, wearing shorts – practices that al-Qaeda banned. Women walk around with uncovered faces. Children wave at US Humvees. Eagles’ Nest, a heavily fortified warren of commandeered houses, is abandoned and the stadium hosts football matches.

“Al-Qaeda is gone. Everybody is happy,” said Mohammed Ramadan, 38, a stallholder in the souk who witnessed four executions. “It was fear, pure fear. Nobody wanted to help them but you had to do what they told you.”

[…]

They have set up 12 district councils and a city council. They have created 19,000 day labour jobs, paying locals $7 (£3.47) an hour to clear rubble, remove acres of garbage, repair cratered roads, paint shop fronts and replace underground pipes destroyed by IEDs. They have restored electricity, water, rubbish collections and a rudimentary bus service. They are erecting 1,000 solar-powered street lamps. The hospital – commandeered by al-Qaeda – and the fire station are back up and running. Criminal courts will reopen next month. So will Ramadi’s ceramics factory, one of its few real employers. Gunfire has become a sound of celebration.

The city council and US military broadcast daily progress reports, introduced by the national anthem and English football results, from giant loudspeakers above 19 police stations.

The 6,000 US soldiers are now dubbed “friendly forces”, and most are bemused by their new civil role. “I want to fight al-Qaeda, but f*** it – this is victory,” said Corporal Patrick Marzillo from Chicago.

GOP Slams DOJ sponsorship of Islamic Society Convention

August 31st 2007

Hmm, yea no democrats saying anything of course.

So many politicians in Washington forget who committed the heinous acts of 9-11, those who sponser jihadi terror, and those are directly implicated (Islamic Society of North America) in terror financing.

At least a few Republicans are speaking up:

Republican lawmakers are urging the Justice Department not to participate in a convention held by the Islamic Society of North America — a group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in an ongoing terrorism-financing case.

In a letter to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, Reps. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Sue Myrick of North Carolina called the Justice Department’s involvement a “grave mistake.”

“In light of the threat that our nation is currently facing from radical jihadists, and because of the president’s commitment to fighting the war on terror on all fronts, we believe it is a grave mistake to provide legitimacy to an organization with extremist origins, leadership and a radical agenda,” the lawmakers said.

Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, said he agrees that Justice officials should not attend the conference.

It is absolute insanity for the federal government, especially the Department of Justice, to be giving any credibility at all to a group like the ISNA, which has such strong links to Islamic extremism,” Mr. King said.

More Mohammed cartoon madness

August 30th 2007

Here we go again. Muslims are “hurt” by the depiction by a Swedish newspaper depicting the head of Mohammed on a dog.

Once again we see how Islam is not compatible with Freedom.

The Swedish Newspaper Nerikes Allehanda defends the cartoon:

“This is unacceptable self-censorship,” the newspaper wrote in an editorial on its website today, referring to the reluctance by galleries to exhibit Vilks’s drawings.

“The right to freedom of religion and the right to blaspheme religions go together,” it wrote.

I’m just glad the whole world is getting fed up with hearing aobut story after story about how “Muslims” are being offended , oppressed, and victimized, yet they’re perfectly fine in living under Islamic rule which does the exact same thing to them, if not worse.

Some comments over at Free Republic:

I think the world’s Muslims need to attend Anger Management training.

The West should simply have a permanent, ever-changing display of Mohammed cartoons, at multiple locations in multiple countries. The cartoon displays should state that their purpose is not to anger Muslims, and not to denigrate Mohammed—but simply to desensitize Muslims to such displays, and teach them a lesson about freedom.

another:

May I suggest a Mohammed Cartoon Network? That would be hilarious.

one more”

It could have been worse - they could have given it the body of a pig.

US Air Force unleashes the Reaper

August 29th 2007

Iran is scared…they should be. Our military is well equipped for the job.

The Air Force next month will deploy a new generation of pilotless airplane with the bombing power of an F-16 to help stop the stubborn Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.

The Reaper is an upgraded version of the Predator, which has become one of the military’s most sought-after planes since it first appeared in Afghanistan in 2001. The Reaper can fly three times as fast as a Predator and carry eight times more weaponry, such as Hellfire missiles, the Air Force said.

The Reaper’s greater range and speed make it better suited than the Predator to Afghanistan’s vast, rugged terrain. The Reaper will also be deployed to Iraq. Its speed and arms will let it track and kill moving targets able to elude a Predator, said Brig. Gen. James Poss, director of intelligence for Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base, Va…

The Reaper carries about the same payload as the F-16 but can stay aloft as much as eight times longer than the F-16, which must refuel about every two hours.

“You’ve got a lot of ammo circling overhead on call for short-notice strikes,” said John Pike, director of the military think tank, Globalsecurity. “It seems like a good idea.”

Infidels memo: Survival of the West and the threat to Freedom

August 29th 2007

defend_freedom_soldiers.jpg

As we inch closer and closer to war with Iran, I sit here, in quiet, reflecting over the virtues of this great country. I sit here in retrospect about going to war and why we HAVE TO.

I also think about the awesome gift that God gave us…free will. The free markets and free thinking in this country has allowed us to prosper far beyond any civilization on this planet.

This virtue is the one value that Islamic culture completely rejects. Islamic culture does not preach free, progressive thinking, but instead the submission to Allah in a constant pursuit of a never ending struggle to gain acceptance from God. A pursuit that is endless and backwards.

As the evil cult of Islam infiltrates Europe and soon to be America, every day restricting our freedoms, restricting free thinking and preaching submission to Allah, all the while convincing many within our own country that Islam is ultimately “peaceful”, while completely separating us from eachother more and more, I sit here in quiet writing this memo to all Infidels who may read this.

Let me say it again:

We are at WAR. I’m not just talking about the bombing campaign that’s about to take place in Iran.

This is not a war that will go away, this is not a war like WWII where we can go home and call it a day. This is a war where the enemy is following us home, infiltrating our societies, converting our people, raising our children to reject Western culture and Western values and using our own freedoms against us in our own system!

The enemy is smart, aware, persistent, defiant, and fully capable of taking our freedoms away….if we let them.

Even many Infidels on the left are aligning themselves with Islamic values simply because they despise Judeo-Christian values so much. The self-hatred, endless guilt and self-loathing of these people is the behavior that brings countries like ours to our knees.  The rejection of these Western values ignorantly aligns them with our enemies.  Like the great author and speaker, Ms. Hirsi Ali would say:

“You grew up in freedom, so you can spit on freedom!

What a true statement indeed. I cannot for the life of me understand those on the Left who’s ignorance blinds them to the point that they are actually aligning themselves with those whom, if were in control (Sharia Law), would brutally oppress and ultimately kill them.

And tonight, reflecting on the values of the Western Man, I’m reminded of D-day, reminded of the “300″, reminded of July 4th, reminded of our willingness to DEFEND our values. Unfortunately, that was then, and this is now. Let’s face it, times have changed…

actually….no they haven’t. Times have NOT changed.

We are still fighting the same war. We are STILL fighting for our freedom.

Freedom is not free. History has shown us that millions of lives have been lost in the cause of freedom.

People on the left would have you believe that we can defend this freedom without going to war. History has shown us that that’s virtually impossible. People will have to die, yes. There’s nothing great about death, but death is sometimes necessary in defending those values in which we hold so dearly.

Our values is at stake, our Freedoms are in danger.

I thank God that we have the brave men and women who willingly risk their lives for this great country. For those of you reading this right now who are serving our country over seas or here at home (you know who you are) Thank you…Thank you so much for serving. You are the DEFENDERS of freedom and your place in history has already been set in stone.

As for us at home…our’s has not been defined yet. We are still in danger of losing the battle at home. The enemy within is eating us alive right now and we’re in danger, folks.

A plea to Infidels both left and right, please don’t give up! Defeat this enemy once and for all!

Reject those cultures that oppress and control your free thinking. Reject them!

Embrace freedom once and for all. Get behind our country even if you despise it’s leaders. Uphold the values in which this country was founded on, and remember… we are the good guys!

Greek Terrorism by Fire: more updates from a greek blogger

August 28th 2007

greece fire pictures terrorism

Interesting perspective from a Greek blogger who’s been personally impacted by the act of terrorism in Greece this weekend.

Two young men, undetermined ages as of yet, died trying to save the area where my family’s house is. They apparently evacuated everyone and then stayed to make put out the fire long enough for a car with evacuees to go through. They were engulfed shortly afterwards.

The kids that have perished so far are so badly burned that the families are having a hard time making identifications. A mobile DNA lab is going to help since the burials have started and the families don’t know which body is which.

There were at least a couple of instances where the ones trapped called the TV and radio stations, got on the air, said their final goodbyes to their families, and then were burned alive. While the stations were doing their best to send aid, the fact that the emergency reponses are streched so thin made rescue efforts near impossible.

My grandmother’s village was completely burned down. It was one of the worse hit and there is nothing that remains. The local authorities say that it’s completely erased off the map.

While there are seven arrested and charged with terrorism, many Greeks feel like the real organization behind this remains at large. Some even started to speculate that the terrorists had ties to the government and perhaps even support.

There is a video of two men setting one of the fires. That is now fishy since we now know that the fires were started remotely via cell phone bombs.

There are still many fires that burn out of control. With no end in sight, the newspapers are calling this “War” and “Attack against Greece” while others are opting for “Holocaust” and “Apocalypse”.

Turkey has already offered and sent a plane and some firemen from what I understand. So far muslim militants are not suspected to be behind this. The current facts point towards eco-terrorism (still new to me as well).

More updates as I get them.
