Islamic Honor Killing in Turkey Claims lives of Mother, Daughter

This is Islam, nothing new of course.

The Left ignores, the MSM yawns, the UN looks the other way.

This ideological problem will spill over to several generations to come.  Islam is peaceful, don’t ya know?

A woman (47) deserted her husband in Kars, in eastern Turkey, and moved in with her divorced daughter (27), mother of three. They were located by the husband/father and his son who came yesterday to the women’s home in Kocaeli, where the 19 year old son brutally killed his mother and his sister by beating them on the head with a bat, with his three young nephews watching.

 

Upon his arrest the 19 year old said that he had killed the women to clean the honor of his family.

 

Recently, the new women MPs from all political parties in Turkish parliament had announced that they would cooperate in the fight against honor killings and to elevate the status of women in Turkey.  Source: Hurriyet, Zaman, Turkey, August 10, 2007

    These crimes actually pre-date Islam, so it is unfair to blame the faith. In fact, Islam does not condone these crimes. They are believed to have their origins in misinterpretations of pre-Islamic Arab tribal codes. Nonetheless, it is the case that, of the estimated 5,000 “honor” killings committed per annum (i.e., the UN’s estimate), the overwhelming majority of them occur in Arab/Muslim countries and in Arab/Muslim immigrant communities elsewhere. So there is a correlation, but no causality.

    Have to agree with you, though, that too many people and institutions are choosing to look the other way. There are solutions to this human rights problem; some are even pretty obvious (e.g., conduct hearts and minds campaigns to change attitudes and opinions in the relevant population segments, educate people in the mosques that these crimes are un-Islamic, reform the laws to fully criminalize these murders, construct shelters, build a network of safehouses).
