Voicemail from Larry Craig reveals his “intent” to mislead the public

This is incredible. Larry Craig made a phone call to his lawyer just minutes before his press conference on Friday stating that he was going to tell the public that it was his “INTENT” to resign, knowing all along he was going to fight it and try to come back.

What a JOKE. He held the press conference knowingly misleading the public and with the intent to fight the charges bringing MORE attention to himself. He seems to have some sick fetish with press conferences and media attention.

How do we know this? Larry Craig left a voicemail for his lawyer Billy Martin (at the wrong number) just minutes before his press conference. Roll Call has posted the audio and you can listen here. The Idaho Statesman also has the transcript. via TheCorner

“Yes, Billy, this is Larry Craig calling. You can reach me on my cell. Arlen Specter is now willing to come out in my defense, arguing that it appears by all that he knows that I have been railroaded and all that.

Having all of that, we have reshaped my statement a little bit to say it is my intent to resign on Sept. 30. I think it is important for you to make as bold a statement as you are comfortable with this afternoon, and I would hope you could make it in front of the cameras.

“I think it would help drive the story that I’m willing to fight, that I’ve got quality people out there fighting in my defense, and that this thing could take a new turn or a new shape, it has that potential. Anyway, give me a buzz or give Mike a buzz on that. We’re headed to my press conference now.

“Thank you. Bye.”

  • Sounds to me like he was unsure if he would actually resign. That he could be dissuaded, but had not yet been so. I don't know if the use of "intent" is thus dishonest, at least by the standards of the world's greatest deliberative body.
  • WOW. What a moron. He left the message at the wrong phone number? bwhwhwhahahahaha. This guy is toast, and he's going to bring the republicans down with him. Some of his former encounters need to come forward and put us all out of our misery.
