I do not agree, however, with his interpretation of our Founding Fathers intent, and have written about that elsewhere. The intended and absolute wall between religion and politics -- to that end, I approve of his refusal to "defend" his faith. However, I fear that, by limiting himself to the faiths of the children of Abraham -- the Judeo-Christian-Muslim traditions, he excludes a significant minority of the nation who are Buddhist, Shinto, Native American, Pagan, and other "minor" faiths. I disagree that "Under God" should remain in the Pledge of Allegiance. It was inserted in 1954 by a well-meaning if misguided Congress intending to differentiate our nation from the "Godless Communists". The originator of the Pledge would NOT have approved. Gov.
