The leadership is just sitting back and doing little-to-nothing about this, even though the overwhelming majority of Jordanians (89% in my nationwide opinion survey) would like to see tougher penalties for these crimes. As long as the average sentence is only six months, people feel they have state support to kill for supposed honor. Ellen R.
