Israel: Full scale Gaza invasion coming

February 29th 2008

The Israeli’s have sent a clear warning to Hamas after the continued barrage of rockets falling on southern Israel.

All I have to say is, it’s about freakin time.

Israeli leaders warned Friday of an approaching conflagration in the Gaza Strip as Israel activated a rocket warning system to protect Ashkelon, a city of 120,000 people, from Palestinian rockets.Ashkelon was hit by several Grad rockets fired from Gaza on Thursday, a sign of the widening scope of violence between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. One hit an apartment building and another landed near a school, wounding a 17-year-old girl.

Located 11 miles from Gaza, Ashkelon had been sporadically targeted in the past but never suffered direct hits or significant damage.

“It will be sad, and difficult, but we have no other choice,” Matan Vilnai, Israel’s deputy defense mister, said Friday, referring to the large-scale military operation he said Israel was preparing to bring a halt to the rocket fire.

“We’re getting close to using our full strength. Until now, we’ve used a small percentage of the army’s power because of the nature of the territory,” Vilnai told Army Radio on Friday.

Captain Ed weighs in:

Hamas says that Israel’s return fire has killed 15 civilians and blames Israel for the rising tensions. Apart from the absurdity of blaming someone for hitting an aggressor in return, Hamas and other terrorist entities have no one but themselves to blame for civilian deaths. Even the AP acknowledges that Hamas launches its rockets from densely populated civilian centers, drawing fire onto their own people.

Israel cannot stand idle while terrorists rain rockets onto civilian populations, and the escalation to Ashkelon is a deliberate provocation by Hamas. The IDF has to take action, and this time it cannot be constrained by proportionality. They need a massive response to the Gaza provocateurs, one that leaves them no ground to hide. If Gaza’s civilian population wants to avoid that, then they need to rid themselves of the terrorists before Israel’s military does its work.

Video: Angelina Jolie in Iraq

February 29th 2008

Finally, some sanity from Hollywood. Respect meter for Angelina just went way up. Guess it runs in the family.

From Angelina’s article yesterday at Washington Post

In Baghdad, I spoke with Army Gen. David Petraeus about UNHCR’s need for security information and protection for its staff as they re-enter Iraq, and I am pleased that he has offered that support. General Petraeus also told me he would support new efforts to address the humanitarian crisis “to the maximum extent possible” — which leaves me hopeful that more progress can be made.

[…]

My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.

[…]

What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. (Eat it, Dems -ed) In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance. UNHCR has appealed for $261 million this year to provide for refugees and internally displaced persons. That is not a small amount of money — but it is less than the U.S. spends each day to fight the war in Iraq. I would like to call on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.

As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.

It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do.

Also, a video today surfaced of Angelina with our troops:

Liberal Fascism hits #1 on NY Times Best Sellers

February 28th 2008

Congratulation to Jonah Goldberg for now making number one on the New York Times bestseller list with his book Liberal Fascism. The great thing is now the New York Times will have in it the phrase “Liberal Fascism” in bold.

This happens to be the only book I’ve been promoting on IAC for a while now.  Check the right sidebar.

American traitor Adam Gadahn dead?

February 28th 2008

adam gadahn is dead

so say the trusted sources of Rusty:

This week a trusted source revealed to me that he was hearing from Pakistan that Gadahn was most likely dead. I asked him if his sources weren’t the same as NBC? No, he replied, he had a different source of information.

Then why hasn’t the U.S. confirmed Gadahn’s demise? Too many body parts, he said. Very little left of any one on the ground. Could take some time, or we may never have confirmation.

How much do I trust the person who told me this? On a scale of 1-10, he’s an 11. It’s more a question of his sources than anything else. His sources seem to believe Gadahn has gone to meet his 72 virgins.

So, is Adam Gadahn dead? I know we’ve been down this road before, and I know a lot of this is wishful thinking, but Magic Eight Ball says outlook good.

Palestinian PM Abbas brags about training Hezbollah

February 28th 2008

Our supposed Ally who wants peace with Israel.

He’s basically saying it’s just a matter of time before he returns to his “resistance” roots.

Gosh if only we could have all that money back…

Thanks Condi…

Jpost

PA President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday said that he does not rule out returning to the path of armed “resistance” against Israel and took pride in the fact that he had been the first to fire on Israel and that his organization had trained Hizbullah.

In an interview with the Jordanian daily al-Dustur, Abbas said that he was opposed to an armed struggle against Israel - for the time being.

At this present juncture, I am opposed to armed struggle because we cannot succeed in it, but maybe in the future things will be different,” he said.

The PA president also expressed pride both in himself and in his organization, Fatah, for trailblazing the path of resistance.

I had the honor of firing the first shot in 1965 and of being the one who taught resistance to many in the region and around the world; what it’s like; when it is effective and when it isn’t effective; its uses, and what serious, authentic and influential resistance is,” Abbas said.

“It is common knowledge when and how resistance is detrimental and when it is well timed,” he added. “We (Fatah) had the honor of leading the resistance and we taught resistance to everyone, including Hizbullah, who trained in our military camps.”

Looks like Qatar is moving in that direction:

Qatari PM: We Want Closer Ties With Iran

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamed bin Khalifa Aal Thani said during his visit to Iran that he wants closer ties with that country.

He added that Iran and Qatar shared similar outlooks on the issues of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Iran’s nuclear dossier.

It’s painful to watch what’s happening in Israel

February 27th 2008

On the heels of another barrage of Qassam rocket attacks in Sderot, Israel, including one that killed Roni Yihieh, 47 and father of 4 of Moshav Bit’ha on a school campus in Negev, many Israeli’s are shocked by the pathetic inaction of the Israeli government (Olmert) and the failure to launch a full scale attack to stop the constant barrage of rockets falling on Sderot every day.

Obviously international pressure including our own Secretary of state, Condi Rice, have played an important role in Olmert’s putrid non-response to the constant acts of terror that have cause the most recent blockade of Gaza.

The following is an excerpt from a very good Jewish blog, Seraphic Secret.

“The first responsibility of a national government is to protect all its citizens. Not just some of its citizens.

Nor should a country, Israel, supply a proudly genocidal entity, Gaza, with the electrical power and fuel with which to kill the citizens of her country.

In fact, some would call this madness, or more accurately: national suicide.

But this is precisely what the current Israeli government is doing in regard to the terrorist state of Gaza.”

Let’s review:

  1. The Arabs in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria overwhelmingly voted in favor of genocidal Hamas over genocidal Fatah.
  2. Hama’s covenant calls for the destruction of the Jewish State, it also labels all negotiations a tactic for jihad. Hamas plans to destroy Israel and replace it with an Islamic state to be ruled by sharia.
  3. Naturally, this happy go-lucky-Arab state, not Palestinian, mind you, just Arab, thank you very much, will be, Judenrein. What a shock.
  4. So: we understand that the Europeans—appeasers to the core—don’t get it. Who cares? Their countries will be swallowed by Jihadists in about 25 years anyway, unless a few good folks pick up arms and start fighting and killing the Islamofascists and their fellow travelers. Good luck, buddies, we’re with you.
  5. But gee willikers, when did the Jews in Israel turn into leftist Eurotrash?
  6. We really want to know.
  7. Because we see little difference between Ehud Olmert and Neville Chamberlain.
  8. And Tzipi Livni. Good grief! You’re like this one woman cheering squad for shtupping foreign mercenaries on Israel’s borders. Yeah, what could possibly go wrong with glorious French troops?
  9. Hey, I have an idea: flatten Gaza.
