Guy Kawasaki launches muslim.alltop.com

May 08th 2008

Guy Kawasaki, startup guru, author and former Apple PR mastermind, launched Alltop.com in March. It’s kind of a localized portal of online websites pertaining to particular niches and targeted towards those who don’t use RSS. As Guy describes it:

A good metaphor is that Alltop is an “online magazine rack” that displays the news from the top publications and blogs. Our goal is to satisfy the information needs of the 99% of Internet users who will never use an RSS feed reader or create a custom page.

I’ve been quite impressed with what he’s done, even though he was bashed by the tech blogs for doing what they say is “just another rss mashup site”. I disagree. Others may have done it already, but they haven’t marketed theirs in the way that Guy is doing and for that I give him a lot of credit for taking the leap. I think he has the know how and credibility to make it very successful. Alltop includes several pages of niched topics that include many great sites across many diverse topics and I even have a few personal friends who happened to be listed in certain categories.

One big problem though…

He recently launched muslim.alltop.com which covers everything Muslim, while lumping all of the Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and other religion stuff under religion.alltop.com.

Yea, and um….

If you’re looking for a mashup of:

  • Anti-American
  • Anti-Israel
  • Anti-Semitic
  • Anti-Bush
  • Pro-Islamist
  • Sharia-apologetic
  • Hamas-appeasing
  • Taliban-appeasing
  • Terror-excusing
  • Infidel-phobic
  • Anti-Western-values websites

Well, muslim.alltop is your place…

It also includes obvious biased sites such as Islamophobia-Watch watch and the infamous Al-Jazeera

Now before you go calling me a raaaacist or Islamophobe or Moooslim hater or hate-filled bigot, please consider the following posts currently featured on muslim.alltop…

Now, in all honesty, I may have contempt for muslim.alltop, but I can understand why Kawasaki would do it. He’s trying to appeal to a large audience and doing the PR jig. Now if only he’d cater to the large conservative movement or maybe the anti-jihad movement.

Here’s a purely business piece of advice for Guy if he’s really looking to reach all sides of the spectrum of blogs…

Conservative.alltop.com (Covering conservative politics) (liberal.alltop should be included too)

and…

anti-terror.alltop.com (Covering anti-terrorism efforts and Islamic extremism)

*update* not every single one of the 120 sites on muslim.alltop are the way I described above, but that doesn’t excuse the ones that are featured…and there are several…
