Father jailed for forcing daughter to marry

So much for women’s rights in islam. What kind of parent would do this to his own daughter? I think we all know the answer to that question.

A 50-year-old man who immigrated to Norway from Iraq has been sentenced to four years in jail, after he was convicted of forcing his daughter to marry a cousin back in northern Iraq in 2004.

The man had been indicted under Norway’s laws against forced marriages (tvangsgift) and also for kidnapping his daughter and taking her back to northern Iraq in 2005.

Forcing anyone to marry is punishable by up to six years in prison in Norway. The sentence handed down Monday is the harshest recorded so far.

The defendant’s daughter, now age 20, testified in court about being subjected to violence and threats. Her father allegedly threatened to kill her if she refused to marry her cousin.

When her family made plans to travel back to northern Iraq for “holiday,” the daughter contacted Norwegian authorities. She said she feared her father would leave her in Iraq. She did return to Norway after that trip, only to disappear a few months later. She was finally found in northern Iraq earlier this year, taken to a safe place and eventually brought back to Norway.

Her father’s defense attorney claims the marriage between his daughter and her cousin was voluntary. “This is very difficult, both for himself and his family,” attorney Dagfinn Hodt told news bureau NTB.

  • aishaladon, that is your interpretation. The fact still remains. Islam is a conglomeration of 72 contradictory sects. And who are your "scholars" in Islam? All Islamic sects have "scholars" and these "scholars" contradict each other. Wasn't the Ayatollah Kohmeini a scholar? Yes, he was a scholar according to millions of fanatical Muslims, who followed him. But this "scholar" said that it was okay to have sex even with an infant so long as you didn't penetrate. How thoughful and compassionate of the ayatollah.

    You're probably a good person. If so, it isn't because you are a Muslim. If so, it's because you're naturally good. If you were a true Islamist, you would "Take neither Jews nor the Christians for your friends," (Sura 5 Verse 61 and Sura 60 Verse 13). aishaladon, what you don't understand is that Islam is also your enemy. Islam commands you to hate Jews and Christians.

    aishaladon, you would also be ruthless to infidels: "Be ruthless to the infidels," (Sura 48:29). Now, aren't you glad that you're not a "good" Muslim? aishaladon, you're a bad Muslim for not following your religion.

    aishaladon, you would never help disbelievers: "Never be a helper to the disbeliever," (Sura 28 Verse 26). Now, aishaladon, that's not very Christian, is it?

    aishaladon, you would also "Fight those who believe not Allah nor the Last Day," (Sura 9 Verse 29). If you're a "good" Muslim you would fight me because I don't believe in Allah. I honestly believe that rotten, violent jerk Allah is another name for Satan. That's why I always conjoin the two names like this: Satan/Allah.

    aishaladon, you would also "Make war on the infidels around you," (Sura 9 Verse 123 and Sura 66 Verse 9). aishaladon, are you belligerent? If not, then you're not a "good" Muslim.

    aishaladon, are you a murderer? If not, then you're not a "good" Muslim. If you were a "good" Muslim you would "Kill the disbelievers wherever you find them," (Sura 2 Verse 191).

    aishaladon, the truth is that I could go on and on pointing out the injustices of Islam. I didn't even touch on the injustices perpetrated against women. But I don't have time to write a book. aishaladon, if you are as nice as you say you are, then, you are more like Jesus Christ than like the child molester, pedophile, murderer, slave owner, wife beater, camel urine drinker Muhammad. Yes, Muhammad said that camel piss was good for your health. That SOB (Son Of the Beast) was worse that a quack doctor living in the jungles of Africa.

    aishaladon, if you are truly good, why not call yourself a Christian? There are more and more people educating themselves of the many evils of Islam. Pretty soon, you're going to look like a pariah if you call yourself a Muslim even if you are truly good. I'm a Christian, a Catholic. May the God of Christians bless you, and may Satan/Allah go to hell where he belongs.

    aishaladon, I will not say "may Allah bless you" because Satan/Allah is the god of war, the god of ruthlessness, the god of cruelty, the god of female genital mutilations, the god of polygamy, the god of wife beaters, the god of untimely deaths and vast destruction.
  • there are yes man made sects in every religion. when I say this is not islam, means this is not what Allah says in the Quran, and yes people interpret things differently. but the majority of scholars and muslims do not agree with these extreme views.

    for example non beleivers. a non believer is not one that is not muslim, it is one who does not believe in god period. and yes I fear for them.

    christian and jews are beleivers. they are a people of faith, people of the book. Allah would not permitt marriage to those he hates, and even the prophets wives were of various religions and cultures and he did not force them, require, nor ask them to convert.
  • aishaladon, there are 72 contradictory Islamic sects, and yet you keep saying "this is not Islam." aishaladon, one Islamic sect may teach one thing, and the other Islamic sect might teach the opposite. So you can always say "this is not Islam" and be correct. However, "it is Islam" in another sect. So let's face it. Islam is not the true faith because it is contradictory.

    Does God contradict Himself? Of course not. Does Islam contradict itself? Always! Why do you think the Muslim Sunnis are murdering Muslim Shiites and viceversa everyday? And this is pretty much the norm with other Islamic sects like the Kurds, Wahhabis, et cetera. They're killing each other because Islam cannot agree. These Islamic idiots are calling each other "infidels." Let's face it. Islam is not the true religion simply because it's contradictory. God isn't contradictory.

    You're probably a good person. If you are, then it's because you're not following Islam. You're probably as confused as I was before 9/11. After 9/11, I began to study Islam. After a while I could see that the real Islam is most violent. I could see that the violent Muslims were the true soldiers of Islam, and the nice so-called Muslims were not Islamic at all. In reality, you're not a true Muslim, that is, if you are nice. If you are nice, you are probably more like Jesus Christ than like the violent Muhammad. GO TO THE FIRST PARAGRAPH AND THINK ABOUT IT.
  • Good, he should have been arrested. A woman has a choice in her marriage, and what one man does is not what God says, this man's actions go against Islam, and every Muslim will tell you that.

    His actions will be judged by Allah, and they will be worse than any jail time.
