It is brought up because there is a historical pattern of abuse that has been occuring for 14 centuries, and is not going to stop by being ignored or watered down for media distribution. Also, I rarely, if ever, hear about a Christian, Buddhist, Jew, etc... claiming that they have done something like this because Christ, Buddha, Judah, or whomever they base their faith on condoned it. Is the money really worth the return? Like you stated in an earlier comment, it is known that some of the money we have given Pakistan has been used for terrorism. The far left does have an abysmal track record as far as objectivity goes. I remember during the Abu Ghraib thing, and also with Guantanamo, while they were filling the airwaves with squeals about American inhumanity they had barely a word to say about Zarqawi cutting people's heads off on camera, or AQI blowing up women and children with car-bombs. The next major terrorist attack on American soil will most likely originate from the tribal areas in Pakistan, and at that point we're talking about another ground war, as in an invasion by us to root out Al Qaeda once and for all.. The major problem with that however is that our military, seven years after 9/11, is still configured entirely wrong for the kind of war we're in. What we need is at least 7 or 8 more infantry divisions, and a heavier investment by the Air Force in systems like the AC130 and the Predators, technology that is actually of value in killing insurgents. We could have all that without even raising the defense budget, simply by diverting a portion of what is now spent on incredibly expensive weapons platforms that might be great if we were fighting Darth Vader but will be of no value whatsoever in Waziristan.

You're absolutely correct, few if any Muslim nations would allow such statistics to get out there. And there's no question that marriage to girls as young as seven or eight is both culturally and religiously tolerated by a majority of Muslim and especially Arab nations. I would still be interested though to see data from Muslim-majority countries such as Bosnia, or from the Muslim population here in America, which indicates a higher rate of child-molestation.

That info would be very hard to obtain, as Muslim women are afraid to speak up.

There's no question that some sort of massive display of lethal force is going to be needed to persuade state actors such as Pakistan, Iran, etc. that it's not in their interests to wage jihad against the U.S., or to allow it to occur from within their borders. Predator drone strikes in Waziristan, although useful, don't send a clear enough message. The challenge still remains though of eliminating non-state actors. Al Qaeda and it's affiliates are present in dozens of countries, including many of our supposed allies.

So do the thugs in Hizbullah in Lebanon, who turned their guns (alleged to be used for resistance against Israel) on the Lebanese who vetoed their move to gain more power in government there.
