Iran: Feminists ready to protest against bill making polygamy easier

Women in Iran cry out for their rights. Pray for them, so they won’t be stoned, beaten, or hanged…

Tehran, 22 July (AKI) - Women’s rights groups in Iran have said that they will stage a round-the clock sit-in at the country’s parliament if lawmakers decide to discuss a bill that will make polygamy easier.

“The new law on the family will take our country back centuries,” said the Iranian feminist Nahid Mirhaj, in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI).

“We will not accept this return to the Middle Ages under any circumstances,” she said.

  1. Thanks for sharing this with us. It’s nice to see women rising together and fighting for their rights.
It’s just sad that in Iran today they still need to fight for things their western sisters have got almost a century ago.
I hope they succeed in their fight.

  2. I agree with you IsrealiGirl, it’s truly sad but I am glad to hear they are standing up to fight and I pray they succeed.
