Teheran, 16 July (AKI) – An Iranian court has accused two student leaders, Mohammad Hashemi and Bahareh Hedayat, of “acts endangering national security” and “contact with counter-revolutionary elements living abroad.”
Hashemi and Hedayat, both members of the central council of the Daftar Tahkim Vahdati [Office for the Consolidation of Unity], Iran’s main student organisation, were arrested on Sunday.
They are being detained in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison.
The student organisation has rejected the accusations against Hashemi and Hedayat, describing them as “shameful”. Around 30 student activists are currently being detained in Evin Prison.
Ten student leaders were arrested in Mashad, the capital of Iran’s eastern Razavi Khorasan province.
