Birthday parties against islam says top Saudi cleric

A Saudi cleric has pretty much issued a fatwa on birthdays, anniversaries, and Mother’s Day. The last one is especially sick, being that muslims love molesting little girls, just like Muhammad did 1430 years ago, and beating and/or killing their wives, sisters, daughters, etc… over percieved acts that bring dishonor to the clan.

RIYADH (Reuters) – Celebrating anniversaries, birthdays or mother’s day is against Muslim ‘righteousness’, Saudi Arabia’s top cleric has said, quashing suggestions by a colleague that Islam permits personal celebrations.

Media savvy cleric Salman al-Awdah told viewers during a call-in television show last week that celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries was not against Islam, sparking a debate in the conservative kingdom and prompting the mufti to weigh in.

Grand Mufti Abdul-Aziz al-Shaikh said celebrating such events would make Muslims like followers of other faiths including Jews and Christians, al-Madina newspaper reported.

Shaikh embodies Wahhabism, the hardline Islamic doctrine that has ruled hand in hand with the Saud family since the kingdom was founded some eight decades ago.

Women are banned from driving and mixing with unrelated men in Saudi Arabia, whose clerics issue edicts ordering Saudis not to buy red roses on Valentine’s Day on an almost annual basis.

“A Muslim should thank almighty Allah if his children are healthy and if his married life is stable as the years pass by,” the paper quoted Shaikh as saying.

Two occasions call for celebration in the Muslim world, Shaikh said: Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha, which marks the end of the annual haj pilgrimage.

Awdah, who follows a relatively softer line, is widely believed to be favoured by circles close to King Abdullah. The monarch has repeatedly said that Saudi Arabia needs reforms.

Coming from Saudi, birthplace of the religion of peace. This is about 5 weeks after that supposed interfaith conference Saudi Barbaria hosted, not in Saudi of course because Jews are not allowed, but in Spain. Basically it was another muslim whine-fest, about how muslims are being portrayed as suicide bombers, violent jihadists and terrorists. Mainly because so many of them are.

    Here's a PS....islam is the most vocal at bashing every other faith. but they back up their bashing with acts. Death, murder, violence.....so don't go all self righteous on us.  You have every right to believe what you want. Just like I do. The problem is when you want to make us all do what you're doing or we should die. Oh...that's not you...but it is a very large group of your religion. And they will kill you too...for not being like them.

    Ahhhh...what Kathy forgets is that the 10 million crazy fanatics who want to kill everyone, want to kill her and all the "nice" muslims too. They don't consider her a real muslim at all.  She'll be the first on the beheading list for not being one of the real muslims. So if she wants to live, she'll start being one of those insane violent evil muslims.  It sure is a religion of peace.
  • That's true, Kathy, your religion really is different. Let me quote a bit from the Muslim Qur'an, The Muslim War Manual:
    1. "Infidels are your sworn enemies,"(Sura 4 Verse 101).

    2. "Make war on the infidels around you," (Sura 9 Verse 123 and Sura 66 Verse  9).

    3. "Be ruthless to the infidels,"(Sura 48 Verse 29).

    4. "Fight those who believe not Allah nor the Last Day,"(Sura 9 Verse 29).

    5. "Strike off the heads of infidels in battle,"(Sura 47 Verse 4).

    6. "Kill the disbelievers wherever you find them," (Sura 2 Verse 191).

    Kathy, there is much, much more evil in the Qur'an, but this will give you an idea what Islam is all about.  Incidentally, if you are a nice Muslim, you're not practicing your religion. If you are a very nice person, you're not telling the truth when you say you are a true Muslim. If I were you, I would call myself something else, i.e., if you are very nice.

    Kathy, am I bashing your religion by quoting your Qur'an? Of course not. I'm only telling the truth. God bless you, kid.

    Kathy, the biggest bashers of Islam are the Muslims. At this very hour Muslim Sunnis are bashing the Muslim Shiites, and the Muslim Shiites are bashing the Muslim Sunnis.

    Alex, when was the last time a Jehovah's Witness cut off someone's head in the the name of Jehovah, or drove a truck loaded with explosives and gasoline into a farmer's market and detonated it? They don't force their beliefs on anyone through violence. Islam does. THAT is the cause for our indignation.

  • I'm not shocked nor do I have pity for any one serving the 'god of this world' Satan.  They are of their father the devil.
  • What's the big deal here? I'm not a fan of Islam, but there are other religions which feel the same way about secular holidays, and aren't vilified for it. Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, are against the celebration of birthdays, and the pledge of allegiance. Commenters, save your indignation for issues worthy of it.
