Baghdad mosque served as torture chamber, execution room

Well what else is new? Muslims love using their ‘holy’ sites to plan and wage jihad. And then when the mosque is bombed they cry foul, claiming that islam is being discriminated against. Mosques are also frequently used to store weapons and plan terrorist attacks, but better not bomb them, that would be a hate crime!

Questions over mosque ‘torture chamber’

Dozens of people have been tortured — and then killed — in a mosque in southwestern Baghdad, which had been used for a year and a half by a militia in the country.

“There are the bloodstains on the wall, and here it is dried on the floor,” said Abu Muhanad as he walked through a torture chamber in the Baghdad mosque where more than two dozen bodies have been found.

The vision of the interior of the mosque is shocking: dozens of mutilated bodies, pools of blood and various instruments of torture are still visible to be observed. “And here, a woman’s shoes. She was a victim of the militia. We found her corpse in the grave.”

The militia, called Adib al-Jumaili, left the mosque three months ago and now the Sons of Iraq have control of it. The mosque is now under the watch of the Sons of Iraq, a local armed group that is largely financed by the Americans working alongside the Iraqi police. They are charged with trying to keep the peace in the neighbourhood.

“We found this chain on an old man’s corpse that we dug out of the grave,” he said, gesturing to a bloodied chain on the floor. “We recovered about 22 corpses and then another five,” said Muhanad.

“This was my son’s grave,” said Abu Wissam pointing to one of the many shallow holes in the mosque’s garden. “We recovered his corpse completely rotten. His hands and legs were amputated and his head was decapitated.” Neighbours in the area indicate that during that time they could hear the cries of the tortured.

The neighbourhood is eerily deserted. Most of the residents have fled the militia’s reign; many who stayed bore the brunt of the violence. Homes stand abandoned, shops shuttered, buildings shut up.

Last week it was imams blowing themselves up building a bomb in a mosque, this week it is a chamber of death in a mosque. But islam is a religion of peace…

  1. Those people must have told the extremists that Islam wasn’t the religion of peace.
