Gay festival attacked by Bosnian youths
An attack has been made on Bosnia’s first gay festival.
Young men attacked the event in Sarajevo, injuring eight people whom they dragged from cars and floats.
The protesters then attacked police, one of whom was also injured.
Six people were admitted to hospital with head wounds and a Danish visitor was listed as being in a serious condition.
The young men involved in the attack, with hoods hiding their faces and some with beards, yelled the Muslim phrase – Allah Akbar.
A concerted campaign had been launched against the four-day Queer Festival this month by Islamic media with anonymous death threats being made against its organizers.
Sarajevo became a majority Muslim city after the 1992-95 war.
