The Letter to Congress from 122 top economists

Do you like this story?

While it’s important to come to a solution as fast as possible during this crisis, we should also take a second and think about the implications this will have in the long-term as well as the immediate burden on you, the taxpayer.  Eventhough they’re saying we don’t have a lot of time to act, I tend to be glad the big bailout plan fell apart today, and I thank Conservatives in Washington for standing strong and pushing for a better, more thought out solution.

I’m re-printing this letter in it’s entirety from the University of Chicago Graduate School

To the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate:

As economists, we want to express to Congress our great concern for the plan proposed by Treasury Secretary Paulson to deal with the financial crisis. We are well aware of the difficulty of the current financial situation and we agree with the need for bold action to ensure that the financial system continues to function. We see three fatal pitfalls in the currently proposed plan:

  1. Its fairness. The plan is a subsidy to investors at taxpayers’ expense. Investors who took risks to earn profits must also bear the losses.  Not every business failure carries systemic risk. The government can ensure a well-functioning financial industry, able to make new loans to creditworthy borrowers, without bailing out particular investors and institutions whose choices proved unwise.

  2. Its ambiguity. Neither the mission of the new agency nor its oversight are clear. If taxpayers are to buy illiquid and opaque assets from troubled sellers, the terms, occasions, and methods of such purchases must be crystal clear ahead of time and carefully monitored afterwards.
  3. Its long-term effects. If the plan is enacted, its effects will be with us for a generation. For all their recent troubles, America’s dynamic and innovative private capital markets have brought the nation unparalleled prosperity.  Fundamentally weakening those markets in order to calm short-run disruptions is desperately short-sighted.

For these reasons we ask Congress not to rush, to hold appropriate hearings, and to carefully consider the right course of action, and to wisely determine the future of the financial industry and the U.S. economy for years to come.

Reid failed to mention this Letter to Congress, instead he (tried) to place the blame on John McCain.  Reckless Reid is the devil in the details, and so is Dealer Dodd, Player Pelosi.  What a bunch of devils, is Sinister Soros paying them off as well, he’s already bought Obama.   Soros is in bed with all of them, you can bet your bootie on that.  I do believe the American people will see this malicious onslaught of of the Demorats.  The Truth will prevail.  FYI the FBI will close in on this, reckless bunch of buffoons, it will back fire on those Liars.

ONLY MCCAIN CAN SHAKE UP WASHINGTON, BUT HE WILL NEED OUR HELP!
STAND UP AND FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH.  NEVER GIVE UP! WASHINGTON AS USUAL IS PLAYING THE BLAME GAME.  SHAME ON YOU!

LOOK OUT OBAMA, YOU WON’T HAVE YOUR TELE – TO TELL YOU LIES. IN THE DEBATES, AND THEM MCCAIN WILL BE BACK IN WASHINGTON TO SHAKE IT UP.

OBAMA GUESS WHO’S GOING DOWN, SINCE MCCAIN CAME TO TOWN!

Obvious Obama the sly slick slithering snake sneaks back on his non-patriotic painted plane to hide as usual, he didn’t have to vote anything but present again.  How easy as that?  Obama better wear ‘depends’ tonight at the debate and Biden has got to be sweating the Pit Bull.   Not only that, Americans don’t like the blame game Washington is playing, which makes the Washington Congress really looks bad, because they are bad.  If the staff is so experienced why did this happen?  Answer:  Greed, Hate, Lies, Deceit, Bribes, Cover Ups, Pay Offs, and who foots the bill American People Pay for these lousy thieves, and fat cats.
We are all pulling together and working hard,  I heard it said @ a press conference!  Guess they will have to NOW, to cover their s#!$$, it still $tink$, BAD!  Can’t trust any of these guys, except John McCain.  You better believe that, truth!  John McCain will win, this will prove who puts Country First!  McCain/Palin 2008

I saw Barney Frank on tv and I wanted to shoot my tv. Did you see that in the meeting at the white house, he was the one who got mad and started yelling?  Spoiled baby didn’t get his way and had a tantrum.  Another thing to pray, that God’s justice will come to DC. That things done in darkness will be shouted to the house tops. That God will bypass the mainstream media and their lies, fraud and greed will be exposed. God can do it. He can bring the truth so out that it even makes their constituents want to get rid of them. Pray that God will clean house. Like someone said…Tom Foley was a liberal majority leader in a liberal leftist state Washington. He had some fraud and squirley stuff going on, he got exposed, and he got the boot! So we need to ask God to do an end run around the MSM and let the truth come out.

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com carolyne

AGREED LIZ: right end run, touch down,  we win.   My husband played right end in school, much needed position.   Jesus Christ says:  if two agree, as touching anything my Father in Heaven in there in the midst, and what ever you bind on earth is bound in heaven.  So we bind Obama’s mouth and the adversaries against America and McCain.  OK so God has bound and confounded the enemy, in Christ.
    9/26/08  Oh, happy day!  My grandson’s 16th B DAY.

  • Liz

Oh..now you really need to pray…he’s driving!  LOL

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com carolyne

He’s a good driver already, and awesome guy.  Very high IQ and loves his school as it is a challenge.  He has common sense as well.  We are blessed with this one, but insurance policy is to pray.  I was very grateful not to have trouble with mine.  Teenagers can be great or your worst nightmare.

  • Liz

Caro….Tell me about it!  Tonight is the debate…let’s agree to pray that Obama is totally stumped without his teleprompter, that he totally exposes who he is and that McCain cleans his clock!  9 pm eastern.

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com carolyne

100% Liz absolute agreement.  NOT one doubt.  Fear NOT, only believe.  Peace for McCain his wisdom will shine like a light out of darkness forth and Obama will be overwhelmed.
After this debate it’s on to Sarah Palin, and Biden.  We can do two things at once so Pelosi is our next target along with Reid, Frank, Dodd, Soros, Ayers, etc. etc.   The FBI will uncover these shysters for who and what they are.

You give me what we are to agree on and I will believe 100% with you.

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com carolyne

My time right now is 6:49 PM central.  After it is over, blog your idea.  I value your Insight because you are In The Know.  So is all the rest on here.  jennyjen you join with us “a three corded rope can’t be broken,” I think is how it’s said.
Going for a swim in the pool, be back for the debte.  I have many friends praying and saying the same thing as us.

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com carolyne

McCain won 82% to 15% on Hannity – 1% undecided.
What people will remember is Obama had to study to know what to say. McCain knew what he was saying through experience.  Another thing people will remember is the Iran issue, McCain got a good one on BO on that (funny) and many other issues.  Obama has a big zero for a past in experience.  McCain the Maverick shinned bright with experience.  Last but not least,  McCain kept pointing out that Obama just didn’t understand.  Understanding is everything, it’s your life line.  Without understanding (breath life) oxygen leaves the room and no one lives long.  If you don’t understand you can’t get through to anyone, and are lost in the thick and thin of things.  Understanding is proactive. and will get the job done.  McCain made that very srong point, very clear.  Obama is frustrated, because you really can’t cram for  a debate.  If you haven’t planted in the spring, watered, in the summer, there will be no harvest.  Obama hasn’t planted or watered anything and is trying to harvest something he doesn’t have.  Obama always has it backwards.   That spells Obama’s life, coming hurried in the back door that will eventually hit him in the butt as he has to leave.  Obama just doesn’t get it, or should I say . . . Obama doesn’t understand!!!
McCain Understands, through planting a crop of hard work, commitment, sacrifice, and experience.
McCain’s harvest time is here.  Now is McCain’s time to reap what he has sown.
America will benefit from McCain’s experience and commitment to Country First.  So McCain won showing leadership, compassion. and  brilliance.

McCain scored A+    Obama scored -0

“Just Say No to Sharia”— Congressman Tancredo’s Sane Approach to Preventing Jihadism in the US

Tancredo Proposes Anti-Sharia Measure in Wake of U.K. Certification of Islamic Courts,” from Borderfire Report, September 19 (thanks to all who sent this in): WASHINGTON, DC – Amid disturbing revelations that the verdicts of Islamic Sharia courts are now legally binding in civil cases in the United Kingdom, U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) moved quickly today to introduce legislation designed to protect the United States from a similar fate.
According to recent news reports, a new network of Sharia courts in a half-dozen major cities in the U.K. have been empowered under British law to adjudicate a wide variety of legal cases ranging from divorces and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

“This is a case where truth is truly stranger than fiction,” said Tancredo. “Today the British people are learning a hard lesson about the consequences of massive, unrestricted immigration.”

Sharia law, favored by Muslim extremists around the world, often calls for brutal punishment – such as the stoning of women who are accused of adultery or have children out of wedlock, cutting off the hands of petty thieves and lashings for the casual consumption of alcohol. Under Sharia law, a woman is often required to provide numerous witnesses to prove rape allegations against an assailant – a near impossible task.

“When you have an immigration policy that allows for the importation of millions of radical Muslims, you are also importing their radical ideology – an ideology that is fundamentally hostile to the foundations of western democracy – such as gender equality, pluralism, and individual liberty,” said Tancredo. “The best way to safeguard America against the importation of the destructive effects of this poisonous ideology is to prevent its purveyors from coming here in the first place.”

Tancredo’s bill, dubbed the “Jihad Prevention Act,” would bar the entry of foreign nationals who advocate Sharia law. In addition, the legislation would make the advocacy of Sharia law by radical Muslims already in the United States a deportable offense.

Tancredo pointed to the results of a recent poll conducted by the Centre for Social Cohesion as evidence that the U.S. should act to prevent the situation in Great Britain from replicating itself here in the United States. The poll found that some 40 percent of Muslim students in the United Kingdom support the introduction of Sharia law there, and 33 percent support the imposition of an Islamic Sharia-based government worldwide.

“We need to send a clear message that the only law we recognize here in America is the U.S. Constitution and the laws passed by our democratically elected representatives,” concluded Tancredo. “If you aren’t comfortable with that concept, you aren’t welcome in the United States.”

Muslims Against Sharia praised Congressman Tancredo’s initiative, stating their full support for the “Jihad Prevention Act,” and referring to their earlier statements:

“Any person from a country where a substantial part of the population is pro-Sharia should not be allowed in the West, not only as an immigrant, but even as a visitor with a few exceptions, I.e., political asylum or as a diplomat etc. … Every legal immigrant should be allowed to stay only if he/she did not display desire to establish a Sharia state in a host country. Any naturalized citizen who displays a desire to establish a Sharia state in a host country should have his/her citizenship revoked and promptly deported. I think the latter two groups is where the real danger lies.” Linda Ahmed, FrontPage Magazine, July 24, 2008

Anyone who proclaims Islamic extremist views should be tried for sedition, since we are at war with radical Islam, or at the very least, promptly deported.”  Khalim Massoud, FrontPage Magazine, September 9, 2008

Here are some comments worth sharing from Muslims who oppose sharia Islamic law. Let’s all support Tancredo’s initiative and tell our Congressmen to do so.  Pardon if I have duplicated comments here tonight on this site, but I don;t know what posts have made it through. (having technical difficulties) Anyway — 3 cheers for Tancredo!

    Marineland,

I only saw three comments of yours in the comment box. I approved the last one that was pending. How many have you submitted?

THANK YOU for that heads up on Tancredo’s Anti-jihadism act!

I was saddened to see Tancredo on Fox this weekend and to hear that he is not running again for office. We are losing a defender of freedom and a voice for liberty in Congress.  Does anyone know the number of this bill so we can write out support for it? I have little hope that it will pass with the idiots in the majority, but I am a vocal voter.

  • marineland

Liz- The bill # is 6975 and is called the Jihad Prevention Act. Check out http://judiciary.house.gov/about/members.html for who is on the Judiciary Committee of the Bill. Give them all a call.  Also google “immigration reform caucus” to find out who else is involved. I called Tancredo’s office and was given this info. 202-225-7882. One of the sites was down so the clerk told me about googling the ”immigration reform caucus”.    Also check out http://www.americancongressfortruth.com which is a great source of information. There are several petitions you can sign.  Check out the scorecards to see how different congressmen voted.
