UK muslims attempting to prevent supermarket chain from selling alcohol – IN ENGLAND

*sigh*… I guess you have never been to dry areas of the US south. No different. I’ve met hard core Christians in Kentucky who were lived that alcohol could be purchased in their county. And I’ve been stuck for days in a dry county in west Texas with a broken down car. That seriously sucked.

I live in a dry county- totally sucks! The hypocrisy is the worse part of it all. This little town wants to boom and the bible-thumpers keep jumping up saying they don’t want alcohol sold in their town citing increases in violence and DWI’s. However, if you go to the college football game on Saturday and partake in tailgating, you will observe the exact same bible-thumpers drinking beer and grillin burgers. You can go to any nice restaurant and they have a liquor liscense, there are 5 clubs (all serve alcohol) and almost every hotel has some sort of beverage available.
Now, the restaurants get to serve and the clubs are still hoppin but I gotta drive at least 8 miles South to get a 30 pack to drink at home?? Yeah, that’s progressive thinkin and Ron you hang in there buddy, we may live in dry counties but we will not be stifled in our drinking!!

Looks like you got stranded in Lubbock lol. I have a friend who went to Texas Tech, he said it was weird with the county being dry, yet every frat house had monster parties with kegs wall to wall every weekend. The hardest drinkers of course, were the baptist bible thumpers. Kind of like the muslim royal family in Saudi (I forget his name, but the second highest ranked is a raging alcoholic).

As a recovering alcoholic my dear, I certainly understand your feelings, as I used to resent the fact that there were no liquor stores open on the weekends here in BC/Canada.  HOWEVER, (you won’t like this), from drinking socially for 30 yrs, I’ve discovered what this scourge of society is able to do, with your health.  My late husband & I were both hit with permanent Grand-Mal Seizures, with no cure.  In the last 17+ mos I’ve discovered many who are also dealing with serious health problems, from liquor.  It doesn’t matter if the freaking stuff is sold in a local grocery store or on some hill top in South Africa.  Nothing could stop me from getting my regular VODKA !!!!  I understand, somewhat, your opinion, but it doesn’t really matter, as our society currently is spiralling out of control with this scourge and many others.  At the rate we’re going, when us 50+er’s are all in nursing homes (if we’ve lived that long), who’s going to take over running the country’s?  If our youth are tanked up with liquor & drugs all the time, destroying their own health & lies?
Maybe you should relax a bit Kal, and help many of us, who have been trying to convince Governments to rule on mandatory Health Warning Labels on all liquor containers.
You see, we had no idea that little & often, would result in such devastating consequences.  I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

That all comes back to something that was instilled in me from my youth. Personal accountability. From the time I was 7 my parents warned me about the dangers of drinking to excess. No one forced you to drink to excess. As you said, “It doesn’t matter if the freaking stuff is sold in a local grocery store or on some hill top in South Africa.  Nothing could stop me from getting my regular VODKA !!!!” You MADE THAT CHOICE, no one made it for you. Unfortunately, now you are saddled with the consequences.

It is common knowledge (at least it was when I was in jr. high school in the early 90′s) that too much alcohol can damage your health. Alcoholism is not some new 20th century pandemic, it has been around for ages.
Health Warning Labels are pointless, as anyone can choose to ignore them. And of course, people overdose on prescription meds all the time, and they have warning labels. How about taking some PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and educating yourself, instead of asking the government to do it for you?
Just as it is your God-given RIGHT to excercise free will and drink to excess, it is mine to choose to have a beer with my dinner, or a glass of wine, or whiskey. As for running the country, I, along with tens of thousands are not always tanked up on liquor and drugs. We leave that to the irresponsible addicts who refuse to deal with their lives and self destruct.

As for me, I have a beer or 2 after work with my Xanax. I know I shouldn’t be taking those things but I get so worked up by 5 p.m. I got an edge on me that would shave a wildebeest. These damn islamic extremists sure ain’t helping matters either.
