TweetI have always suspected that conservatives give more to charity that liberals simply because they believe in private charity rather than overblown government programs that over-tax and re-distribute that Democrats so firmly believe in.
But hey, why in the world would tax-obsessed Democrats give money charity when they know they can take YOURS instead?
I have just been proven right.
Conservatives give to charities, while liberals hoard.
Democratic Sen. Joe Biden is worse than Scrooge.
Even though he and his wife raked in $320,000 from their taxpayer-paid government jobs last year, they gave a mere $995 to charity.
That was the best these two chintzes gave to charity. In the past 10 years, they have averaged $369 a year.
According the IRS, the average taxpayer who earns $15,000-$30,000 a year gives away $1,916 a year to charity — or more than 5 times as much.
They may not make one-tenth of what Joe and Jill Biden make, but they kick in 5 times as much to charity.
Tax law professor Paul Caron said, “It is jarring that a couple earning over $200,000 per year would give as little as $2 per week to charity. This giving compares very unfavorably to John McCain, whose tax returns show that he gave 27.3% – 28.6% of his income to charity in 2006-2007. During the same period, the Obamas’ tax returns show that they gave 5.8% – 6.1% of their income to charity.”
Dick and Lynne Cheney — vilified by liberals and the mainstream press — gave away 77% of their 2005 income of $8 million to charity, the White House said.
At $369 a year, it would take the Bidens 6,904 years to match that $6,869,655 the Cheneys gave away in 2005.
But Biden’s selfishness matches Al Gore, who according to the Washington Post, gave away $353 of the $197,729 he earned in 1997.
Bill Clinton once deducted his old underwear he gave to the Salvation Army.
And John Kerry listed no charitable deductions on his tax returns in 1991 and in 1995.
In 2003, the year comparable to the Biden disclosure, Kerry gave away 11% of his income of $395,338, Byron York reported.
We haven’t seen the Palin tax returns but I would guess she has that $995 beat.
Compassionate conservatism is not dead.
Compassionate liberalism? An oxymoron.
