Jordan arrests poet accused of insulting Islam

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Jordanian police arrested a local writer Tuesday for incorporating verses of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, into his love poetry, a judicial official said.

The poet, Islam Samhan, published his collection of poems, “Grace like a Shadow,” without the approval of the Jordanian government, and authorities say it insults the holy book, the official said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Samhan was charged with harming the Islamic faith and violating the press and publication law for combining the sacred words of the Quran with sexual themes.

If convicted, the poet could face up to three years in jail.

Jordanian law bans the publication of any books or articles that could be seen as harmful to Islam and its Prophet Muhammad.

More than two years ago, the court convicted the editors of two weekly newspapers of insulting Islam and sentenced them to two months in prison after they reprinted Danish newspaper caricatures of Muhammad.

Jordanian writers and artists urged the government in a collective petition to immediately release the poet, saying the arrest is a “retreat in the freedom of expression,” and called for an end to the “oppression of freedom and intimidation practiced against intellectuals.”

Yeah how horrible of the poet, writing poetry including verses from the book about pedophile Muhammad’s hallucinations in a cave, giving them a sexual overtone. How dare he! /sarc

    The muzleems are pretty upset by the numbers of people that are immigrating and converting too.  The people that convert while still in muz dominated countries have them in real hissy fits, and it's happening.  I don't know if it was viewed as a mistake or what, but a few months ago, there was a TV show in Iran where there was a mullah whining about the increasing incidents of apostasy in Iran and calling for a crack down.  The fact that a mullah was talking about it on Iran's national, mullah controlled TV, is pretty important.  It shows it wasn't a lie, and that they're upset by it.  People are people and not really all that stupid.  There are Indian sites (from India, not native American) that are manned by Indian apostates and they tell a story of thoughtful examination and wrenching conclusions that actually endanger their lives because of where they live.  Islam is actually self defeating in many ways.  The adherents are repressed, they are very uneducated in comparison to the west and nowhere near as industrialized as the west.  Education and industrialization is a key attribute of survival and victory in this modern world.  One can see that difference all through history.  Tech advance equals victory.  Industrial capability equals victory.  Islam and islamic countries must BUY weapons and technology....they just don't have it or the capability to get it in this century.  That, I think, is the key reason that much jihadi, muzleem, islamifacist bullshit is being overlooked by the industrial/military complex.  When was the last time the rag-heads sent somebody to the frickin' moon?  So who see them as a threat?
      Muzleems immigrate for three reasons. 1. They're actually other than muz and are escaping persecution. 2. They're muz but don't buy into the violence and intense islam being forced on people in muz countries now. Or 3. They are infiltrators using western resources and money making opportunities to finance muz jihadist goals.  It's actually easy to differentiate....which ones can you get mad the easiest?  Those are the crooked ones.  Those are the ones you fuck with.  Personally, I like making a muz really nuts!  Makes my whole day sometimes!  Keep one paw on my shiv though.
