Indonesian muslim cleric who married 12-year-old girl to face criminal charges

A wealthy Indonesian Muslim cleric faces accusations of having illegal sex with a minor after marrying a 12-year-old girl selected for him through a contest.

Pujiono Cahyo Widianto, a 43-year-old owner of an Islamic boarding school, wed and likely slept with Lutfiana Ulfa in August after she won a contest to become Pujiono’s second wife judged by his first wife, 26, and followers, the Jakarta Post reported.

The girl’s parents admitted that financial difficulties led them to marry their daughter to Pujiono and said the marriage is valid in the eyes of their religion (kawin siri), though not registered with the state, Indonesian Child Protection Commission secretary Hadi Supeno told the Post.

The commission planned to immediately report Pujiono, his first wife and Lutfiana’s parents to the police for a criminal investigation, Hadi told the Post. All could face a maximum of 15 years in jail and a $30,000 fine, for forcing, swindling and/or trading a minor into sex.

Additionally, the commission intends to request an edict forbidding marriages to minors as Pujiono has declared plans to also marry a 7-year-old girl and 9-year-old girl, the Post reported.

“Puji is a community leader who has many followers. If he is allowed to continue doing this, we’re afraid that many other people will follow suit. This will victimize children,” Hadi told the Post.

Disgusting, but at least the authorities are stepping up and doing the right thing.

    Wow, I really impressed.  Indonesia stepping up and being secular instead of sharia.  Hopefully this is a trend.  Maybe there is a light in the darkness there.

    There are pedophiles all over the world…You only have to look at the Catholic church and the current furore over priests buggering little altar boys – or the case of Fritzl in Austria who made a dungeon for his daughter and continued to rape her and the children he had with her. So what is your point? Are you that full of hate against Muslims that you spend all your time trawling the internet to find nasty things to say about them? If we look at the history of the world in the last 100 years we can see which group of people are the most evil. Both World Wars were started by white Christian people and they are responsible for murdering over 100 million people in the 2 wars. The Nazis who were good strong white people took murder to an industrial level and we can see the results from the photographs from the death camps. Stalin, another white man might not have screwed a little girl but he didn't half fuck 50 million of his own people…When you look at the demographics of child rapists in prisons you will see that they are almost exclusively white. Anyone who is as obsessed as you has got something to hide and it wouldn't surprise me if you were molesting children yourself…

    And most likely u r christian, why don’t u write anything about your religion and church which is filled with pedophilies.
    So, either u get the facts right and know the real islam before you open your mouth with shits comes out of it and go and try to heal your church which is filled with these stories

Mohammed was in the van of paedophilia; the exemplar extraordinaire, or did he and the six-year old Aisha play house and monopoly when there was nothing to watch on TV?

    Justifying the evil in Islam with examples of evil in other men, doesn’t work. The point is, Islam condones child molestation because Mohammed married a 6 year old girl and consumated the marriage when she was 9, and Muslims are taught that they should emulate everything Mohammed did. No one condoned the evil acts you cite, other than those that committed them. Accusing the author of ulterior motives, doesn’t change the facts about Islam. This Muslim cleric was only doing what Islam teaches him, and a cleric, of all Muslims should know what that is. Do you blame the cleric, Islam, or both, if they conflict with secular law?
