Senior rebel commander detained during operation in the south

FOREIGN troops have arrested a senior Taliban commander in the southern province of Uruzgan, the NATO-led International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

Commander Mullah Sakhi Dad was arrested on Thursday during an operation in Tirin Kot, the provincial capital, ISAF said.

The commander is alleged to have been involved in co-ordinating suicide attacks and is thought to have had close links to another senior Taliban leader, Mullah Biradar Akhond.
