AKI is reporting that American David S. Rohde, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist now working for the New York Times, has been taken hostage by the Taliban in Logar province, east of Kabul.

david-s-rohdeKabul, 11 Nov. (AKI) – By Syed Saleem Shahzad – An American journalist was kidnapped by Taliban militants in the Afghan province of Logar, located 60 kilometres south of the capital Kabul. David Rohde, a journalist working for the US daily The New York Times, was abducted along with his driver and interpreter by a Taliban group known as Siraj Haqqani and has been taken to eastern Afghanistan, sources told Adnkronos International (AKI).

War-torn Afghanistan has seen a surge in kidnappings of foreigners by Taliban militants recently. On Monday, Canadian journalist Mellissa Fung was freed in Kabul after being held in captivity for four weeks by militants.

Here is an archive of David Rohde’s articles at the New York Times

More updates when they come available.

You should all be ashamed now that it has been revealed that the NYT cared more about this man's safety than making noise touting their "patriotism" a la Rush Limbaugh. The paper stayed quiet about this to PROTECT him. It isn't about liberalism vs conservatism; It's humanitarianism - Liz, answer your own question - will reality change YOUR opinion about anything? We all need to stop shouting & listen to each other.
  • Again, stop an think about what the Times is doing before you regurgitate your dull-minded liberal talking point...

Please explain to me the NY Times willingness to expose highly classified national-security programs that put Americans at greater risk for attack. Where was the PROTECTION for those people?

If the main issue in kidnappings is publicity, maybe the Times should have refrained from giving the terrorists that kind of visibility on all of the cases, and not just the one that involved its own reporter.

They don’t stick to that policy when someone other than a NYT reporter gets abducted:

Do a NY Times search for “kidnapped Afghanistan” and you’ll find this January 2008 story about an American woman and her driver who’d just been kidnapped, this September 2008 story about an Afghan official who was kidnapped in Pakistan, a November 2008 story about a French aid worker who was kidnapped in Kabul.

And that’s not to mention the national security stories they happily and proudly ran (the Swift program, a perfectly legal program for tracking international financial transactions which they uncovered, among others).

While I can appreciate the Times willingness to protect their own, and I don't necessarily disagree with doing so, the hypocrisy NEEDS to be pointed out and you should be intelelctually honest with your friends and colleagues when discussing this story. Hopefully good libs like yourself will blow the whistle and be OUTRAGED every time the NYTIMES publishes a story that puts someone life in danger.

Mary, now I have to ask, "Will reality change YOUR opinion about anything?"

Likely not, Infidelesto. You are asking a libtard to pull her head from her
ass, which is highly unlikely to ever occur. I'm just saying...

  • I haven't heard anything, Lauren. Still waiting on some news. I've setup a Google Alert to let me know if anything in the news comes up.

Any further news on David - It just seem like the world has forgotten his plight. Isn't there anything we can be doing to help?
  • Kathy
Are there any updates on David's whereabouts? Besides the initial report of the kidnapping, the entire incident seems to have been buried. No info on it at all. Anyone know what's going on?
  • I feel for him and his family. If he gets out of this alive it will be a blessing. Then he can go back to the Times office and kick the editor in the balls for reporting liberal fluff while he was being held captive by the so-called victims.
  • I doubt this will change their opinions. So people will just never face the harsh reality of the situation.

My prayers are with David Rohde and his new bride.  What a horror!  I agree with Liz that the NY Times, like most left-wing media, gives aid and comfort to the enemy.  Interesting the increase in violence since Hussein's election.  This is going to be worse than Carter's Administration.  God forbid!

Ironic isn't it. Rush Limbaugh does a parody of the NY TImes being the place where all jihadists can go to find all the current, classified information. Now one of their own is in serious jeopardy from the very ones they help by their traitorous actions.  I pray he is released, but with those Taliban crazies...he may well end up on AlJazeera.  Do you think it will change their opinions on anything? Doubt it!
  • Tonto
These foreign fighters and taliban are great at fighting unarmed people and little girls.  They get their asses kicked when they try with real men.  Hope this journalist doesn't end up as a feature on al-jazeera TV.  They love their beheadings.  PUNKS !!!
