Some changes…

by Infidelesto on December 2, 2008 · Comments

We’ve changed a few things on the site as you can see.  We’ve implemented a new comment system with TONS of new social media aspects to it.  Intense Debate is a comment system recently acquired by the guys at Wordpress and we’ve decided to give it try.  You can sign up, add your avatar, even add your other social networks that other people can access.  It’s a GREAT way to follow the conversation, and follow other people’s comments if you want to.

Some features that the comments now include:

  • Voting system allows you to vote good comments to the top and junk to the bottom
  • Reputation points and comment voting
  • You can sort comments by rating, date or recent activity
  • Threaded comments (you can now “reply” to directly to a particular comment)
  • You can also respond to comments directly through email (if you are receiving comment updates)
  • Your profile keeps track of your comment history and others if you want to follow them
  • Twitter integration – When you post a comment, you have the option to send a Tweet on a post-by-post basis letting your followers know you commented on a post. It’s a great way to share posts.
  • Support for OpenID and Gravatar

You can follow the conversations by RSS using any feed reader you prefer.

I’m very excited about it, and we’ll see how it goes.  Please email me with any feedback you have admin[at]infidelsarecool.com.

  • Intense Debate has really taken off ever since they were acquired by Wordpress. They used to have a lot of bugs...months ago, and went offlline for a bit, but ever since they came back, they're have improved exponentially, not just in their service, but in customer support too. Also, they're getting a lot of press because *cringe* Change.gov is using them now (almost 4,000 comments on this post

    http://change.gov/page/content/discusshealthcare

which is giving them tons of press

I can't get it to work?!? It says my email is already in use but when I try to login it says I don't have an account? Whats up with that?
  • From what I remember, Disqus doesn't have quite the integration that Intense debate does when it comes to keeping ownership of your comments. I like how you can import/export your comments on ID, something I knew you couldn't do before with Disqus, but maybe they've improved it.

im excited to hear how it goes, if twitter integrates well that would be awesome!
  • I have been thinking of switching to intensedebate from disqus as well. I want to give it a little test drive. i love the idea of the twitter integration. Have you tried that part out?
  • I've been test driving Disqus on one of sites, and although I like the general idea, they don't seem to have reached enough blog publishers to make the social side worth all that much. Are you finding that intense debate has reached more bloggers due to wordpress connection?
