TweetAnother disgusting abuse of a child from the religion of peace. Many people are unaware, but Bangladesh is in fact, about 80% muslim. No surprise then that the slave trade flourishes.
Boy trafficked into Britain for slave labour was locked in dark room for 15 months before being dumped on streets
A Bangladeshi boy, who was trafficked into the UK and kept in a dark room for 15 months, was only allowed to leave to visit his local supermarket, it has emerged.
The confused youngster, who does not speak a word of English, was rescued by police after being dumped on the streets.
A man found the boy, who wore only thin clothes and did not have a coat, shivering in freezing weather and took him to an Indian restaurant in Norwich.
Raj Villa waiter Ashfaq Ahamed, 23, said the man turned up with the child and they were able to speak Bangladeshi to him.
Mr Ahamed said:’The boy was so cold he could hardly speak at first. He was very thin, withdrawn and really upset.
‘When I asked what had happened he said he had been in Norwich for 15 months with his uncle living near to the train station in one room and only going out to the Asda supermarket by car.’
Detectives believe the boy was actually virtually kept prisoner in London before being taken to Norwich by a mystery man.
Det Sgt Stuart Bailey, of Norfolk Police, said: ‘We suspect the boy has been trafficked – whether that’s from outside the UK or from within the UK we don’t know.’
Det Sgt Bailey added the boy was probably trafficked to be used for sweat shop labour.
The child is now in the care of Children’s Services and has been placed with a foster family until more information can been found.
Det Sgt Bailey said his foster carers had used internet maps to try to explain to the youngster where he was and find out where he came from.
He said: ‘He pointed out a really rural village in Bangladesh where he said he lived with his parents.
‘There are not even roads which highlight the level of poverty there. It is not known if his family sold him or had to pay to get him to UK.’
The boy is 5ft 7ins tall with short black straight hair and is of slim build.
When found he was wearing a navy blue waterproof jacket with white piping along the length of sleeves, dark blue jeans and black shoes.
Det Sgt Bailey said police were keen to find the Good Samaritan who helped the boy.
‘We’re very grateful for his help in ensuring the boy’s welfare, but we are eager to locate him.
‘We know the boy was found between 6pm and 9pm and are also keen to hear from anyone else who saw him in the city on Tuesday.’
