No, John, the fact that there is no proof of God's existence does not constitute proof of his (?) non-existence. That is not the way of science: never has been; never will. Scientists don't "believe" in anything. Read Feynman and Dawkins. Science does not "validate" questions, but attends to those it has a chance of answering. Say what you will of science, but it is never arrogant. Some scientists might have been guilty of this, but never science, Science delights in scepticism: it acknowledges there are no certainties - that is the stuff of religious dogma. Belief systems? Russell's teapot?

Should some inexplicable event occur they would take the view that it has no answer AT THE MOMENT, but they would do their damnedest to come forth with an explanation that shuns the supernatural or the pseudo-psychological. Science has no desire to "disprove a negative". That is not science. Science will never dabble in religion or the "supernatural", for they do not lend themselves to the scientific method. I have tried to answer the questions you raised, although I am, in all likelihood, far from "qualified" to do so. Clerics of various hues might don their armour to joust with me, but they would all come a cropper in the face of reason. Yes, we scientists have a LONG road to travel. Hell, we have been at it for only 400 years, but we will USE OUR INTELLECTS to discern truth, knowing that dogma leads nowhere. Religion despises reason. It fears it.
Your final sentence is beyond reproach, apart from the reference to Satan, but I understand your meaning. Islam is the greatest evil the world has ever faced, but Civilisation will undoubtedly triumph over it. Islam has no balls, only noise.

Personally, I'm more on the realm of a Jesus admiring agnostic. I believe that Christ truly was a representation of God who came to this planet to instruct mankind on how to live, how to be happy and humble and how to live peacefully. He came to show us those same values in which Western Society still holds dear today.

As far as the specifics of who and what God is, doesn't really matter to me. I believe there is something more, but I don't necessarily believe everything the Bible says. I use it more as a reference on how to live my life rather than a "book of the almighty truth".

3. There are no miracles in science. Science can never, and has never, "dabbled in the religious", if I may put it this way. The God of whom we speak is not quantifiable, so science cannot go there: the scientific method cannot be applied to investigations of God. Yet, a large number of scientists are believers even though their belief cannot be based on scientific reason. Science does NOT say that there is no God. It has no right to.
4. Jesus was a tremendous man; a good chap! His teachings were of great value to humanity (even if many of his followers have committed vile deeds in his name, but this is not Jesus's fault).

We should remember that our values, unlike Islam, have ultimately come from a Judeo-Christian background. While I'm not one to push organized religion, I still believe that it's the values that Jesus set as example to his followers as well as the ten commandments that have shaped the values of modern western society.

I don't think it's an insult to have beliefs beyond the realm of science as we know it. Ultimately, there are so many unanswered questions. To be an athiest and believe with certainty that there is no God, is really a religion in and of itself.
