The Psychology behind leftist support for Hamas

Here’s a great analysis from the Jerusalem post talking about the backwards thinking of Hamas supports and why it’s “cool” to follow the trends of emotional “feel good” politics.

Jerusalem Post

In a bizarre reversal of all their commitment to human rights and the struggle of men and women for independence and self-determination, the European Left has chosen again and again to side with the bullies and to condemn a small nation struggling to survive in a hostile neighborhood. It is all self-contradictory: The Left supports gay rights, yet attacks the only country in the Middle East where gay rights are enshrined in law. Hamas makes death the punishment for being gay, but “we are all Hamas now.” Iran hangs gays, but it is praised as an agent of anti-imperialism, and allowed to get on with its job of stoning women and executing dissidents and members of religious minorities. If UK Premier Gordon Brown swore to wipe France from the face of the earth, he would become a pariah among nations. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatens to do that to Israel and is invited to speak to the UN General Assembly.

Israel guarantees civil liberties to all its citizens, Jew or Arab alike, but it is dubbed “an apartheid state”; Hamas, ever the bully, kills its opponents and denies the rest the most basic rights, but we march on behalf of Hamas. The Left prefers the bully because the bully represents a finger in the face of the establishment? Almost no one on the Left has any understanding of militant Islam. Their politics is a politics of gesture, where wearing a keffiyeh is cool but understanding its symbolism is too much effort even for intellectuals.

OmniscientFool, I am not getting out of context. Israelis are a canny people who wish to know all that can be known about those who threaten their existence. If I wished to know the mind, such as it is, of George Bush I would turn to his closest associates, but also to his enemies because they might be able to shed valuable light upon it. Israel needs all the information it can get if it is to survive, and they will do all in their formidable power to unravel the mysteries of the Hamas mind. What a wise people they are! Much too wise ever to believe what they would like to believe.

BTW -I stumbled upon this Blog through Twitter...so, yes, I'm a troll. But I do appreciate the Host's hospitality and tolerance, and I intend to behave accordingly.

Interesting, OmniscientFool. Consider. Two sides are in conflict and offer their opinions and interpretations of various matters. According to you, one must pay heed only to the side one supports in the conflict. Isn't this a bit juvenile? Would it not be wiser to consider all opinions and then sift through their substance in order to reach a conclusion? This is essentially what happens in courts of law, the jury having the responsibility to weigh up all the evidence. Don't you have such courts in Muslim lands? If your "thinking" were universally adopted, the Americans would still be in Vietnam. Understanding the psychology of one's enemy is of paramount importance in any conflict, and woe betide the commander who neglects this factor.

That's the VERY SAME left that supported Saddam Hussein,a man who murdered every communist in Iraq in the 1980's...
The fact is that they automatically take side with ANYONE who acts against America and Israel,no matter what. This isn't bias, but sheer idiocy
  • OmniscientFool
And who propped up Hussein in the '80's so that he could oppose those Communists and Iran? The Reagan administration....
In which way are you claiming the Left (who ever that is) supported Hussein?

I was mostly just taking pot shots at the anti-liberal commenters earlier -I have no liberal/conservative inclination myself. Although I will disagree if you are saying that conservatives are blasted by liberals while liberals are not blasted by conservatives...It seems mutual from my perspective.
  • OmniscientFool
Of course the Jews can have and offer opinions; but who would give any reasonable consideration to the opinion of of an Israeli regarding the psychology of their enemy...? I might be interested in the psychology of a Hamas supporter from the perspective of a Palestinian or a neutral party. I'd expect the Israeli to have a bias, wouldnt you?
  • Are you trying to say that liberals have standards? Conservatives are the ones who get blasted by the media anytime they have ethics issues, but when liberals screw up, they are NEVER held accountable. ever wonder why? It's because they DON"T have standards, therefore they get a pass for being unethical.

The left supports Hamas because they both, along with Nazis, share the same basic philosophy: their movements are nothing more than big rationalizations for giving some people unbridled power to loot, enslave, and murder others.

Please explain your reasoning. Are the Jews not allowed to hold or offer opinions? If not, is it because they are Jews? Are Arabs allowed opinions? Given that the Jews have an enviable record of scholarship (um, who was the guy who kick-started all the psychoanalysis stuff?) they have enough runs on the board to warrant people's attention. Please amplify, too, your remark about ethics never being a standard for Conservatives. Your post amounts to no more than name-calling.
  • OmniscientFool
Using the Jerusalem Post as a source for the Psychology behind Leftist support of Hamas is rather illegitimate dont you think? I guess ethics never were a standard for Conservatives....
  • Liberals / common sense ( LOL )

    For the Libs....
Murdering and unborn baby is ok.
KILLING MUSLIM TERRORISTS IS NOT ?

    Liberalism is a mental disorder.
  • The liberals want the spare the life of a murderer or pedofile on death row, but says it's ok to take the life of an innocent unborn child. Go figure.
