GAZA: HAMAS OPPOSES PRESENCE OF INTERNATIONAL FORCE
(ANSAmed) – GAZA, JANUARY 13 – Clear opposition to the sending of an international force to the Gaza strip was reaffirmed once more today by Ismail Radwan, one of Hamas’ local leaders. In a communique, Radwan repeated that the sole purpose of such a force would be to protect Israel’s interests. As a result, Hamas would see it as an “occupying power” and therefore a hostile one. The possibility of deploying international forces on the Gaza-Egypt frontier has been mooted on many sides, to guarantee to Israel that it would in future no longer be possible for Hamas to smuggle arms in from Sinai.
