Dam, not good…I was hoping Iraq would be able to get through their second election without incident.   They say that the second election is always the most important for a budding Democracy..a true test to see if a new democracy can peacefully transfer power.  Hopefully this will not be a setback and they will move forward.

Report: Iraqi Provincial Elections Candidates Assassinated

On the eve of the Iraqi provincial council elections, which are to take place tomorrow, Iraqi security sources have reported on the murder of five people yesterday, three of them candidates for Baghdad, Mosul, and Diyala, and the other two employees of the supreme election board (see “In Iraq, Fears That Al-Qaeda Will Disrupt Provincial Elections“).  Al-Anbar [Province] Salvation Council head Hamid Al-Hayis warned of the “destruction of Diyala province if the Islamic party, which currently rules, wins the election there.
