Malaysian authorities arrest 26 unmarried muslim couples for sharing hotel rooms

This one had me laughing, despite the violation of privacy and the fact that in yet another muslim country, it is illegal to be in close proximity to a member of the opposite sex if not married. Not only is that completely stupid, it illustrates the total lack of faith the muslim authorities have in their victims constituents to excercise SELF CONTROL. You know, self control, that little itty bitty thing your parents taught you when you were 6. Unless you had the misfortune of being born and raised in a muslim country, apparently…

Lovers caught in Malaysia’s anti-Valentine drive

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Authorities in Malaysia arrested 26 unmarried Muslim couples in hotel rooms during Operation Valentine – aimed at curbing illegal premarital sex in this conservative country, an officer said Monday.

The couples, most under 30 years old, were detained for sharing rooms early Sunday in the beachside town of Kuantan in eastern Pahang state, said Badaruddin Ahmad Bustami, enforcement assistant director with the state’s Islamic department.

State authorities carry out raids each year on Valentine’s Day in this Muslim-majority country, where sharia laws make it illegal for unmarried Muslims to meet behind closed doors, Badaruddin said. Doing so constitutes a crime known as “khalwat,” or “close proximity,” which carries a maximum fine of 1,000 ringgit (US$280) and up to six months in prison.

The sharia laws apply only to Malaysia’s Muslims, not to Christian and Hindu citizens who together make up about 40 percent of the population.

Badaruddin said the couples were released but may be charged later with khalwat.

“We don’t agree with Muslim couples celebrating Valentine’s Day because it’s not Malay culture,” he said. “Every Valentine’s Day, many couples come here and they commit big mistakes under Islam.”

The only mistake they made was remaining muslim.

Unbelievable, how can you still forbid people who love each other to be together. The law in a country should not interfere in personal choice like choosing your partner or choosing to be intimate without a marriage document. Thats a personal choice, the law should stay out of that!!!!
  • The eastern states on the penninsula are pretty much no-go areas for non-Muslims. That 40% non-muslim population isn't over there in Pahang.

They never did say if they were 2 boys, 2 girls or couples made up of one of each. These people are crazy!! That is wholesale stupidity!

I don't care what the government does with their people. It is the man's choice. He is the one that will carry on in the future, not the women. I am a woman. I would rather let the man speak for the women. Women that are like me only fight over the men because they are jeaolus of the other. dpn't let them make out to get you. Get rid of them. Whether on of them are with you or not they are both still going to argue over you. Why would you want to be the same type living together anyway/ Why not just be one girl alone and take every man in the world for yourself. Don't waste or abuse what is in front of you. Take it while you can. blonde and certainly no man keep looking/guessing good luck Love is a game of Hide and Seek.

The male should be in charge of the relationship. The women should have no right in what they do with their relationship. There should be one male and one female in oredrer for a relationship to work out properly. He is the one that wil take a step forward in life for the woman. He is the one that should make the choices. The women should not be able to date other women. The men should not be able to date other men. The women should have no say in what they will or will not do. the women are to get married, have babies, and to act as housewives. They are to cook, clean, watch the children, and help the husband with his work whenever it is possible. She should find a babysitter if her hands are full. She should do the housework. No woman should hire a housemaid to do the work. That would be lazy of her to hire a housemaid if she did.

Couples need t be be able to work on a relationship together. If they have a problem they need to sit down and talk about it in irder to make a compromise which is where each side gives up one thing and their plans (ideas) still work out. There is no use in a couple breaking up whether they are married or not. Love is not that easy to find. The husband/boyfriend will not deny his wife/girlfriend of her fututre dreams if he loves here enough to not let her out of his sight. He doesn't want anything to happen to her. He will watch over her to make sure that no one tries to hurt her ever again. He will keep her close to his side so that he wil not loose her to another man. He is afraid that he will never find anotherwoman just like her. She is way to beautiful to give her up.

I am only 19 years old. I will be 20 on May 30. I have a huge family. I know what it is like when relationships do not quite work out as you have planned for them to. You think that you do not want to date that type ever again because you have been hurt to much by people. The thing is to never give up on finding what you want in life. Go back to the normal way of dating. Male and female not male and male Instead, try again (keep trying). blonde skinny blue eyes

Perhaps you should apply for the job of Editor of Women's Weekly. Failing that, have you considered becoming a marriage counsellor?

Everyday yet more black comedy from theROP.
Imagine a serious country with a religious police force!
And they wonder why Islam is the new "in" comedy.
Well done once more IAC for reporting the mad mores of the everybodies favourite death cult.

"The only mistake they made was remaining muslim."

Yes, but fortunately for Islam it is not their mistake to make. I wonder, how many non-Muslim nations have people's religion listed as an unchangeable part of their identification and use that to determine which laws they are required to obey, what schools they can attend and who they can marry? It seems to be a pretty common practice in Islamic nations.

Surely we can look forward to a stoning, beheading,or at least a flogging for such heinous crimes.
