Saudi Arabia: Gang rape victim sentenced to prison, 100 lashes

by Kal El on February 16, 2009 · Comments

This is NOT a repeat of last year’s teen gang rape victim the Saudi’s jailed and sentenced to 200 lashes. They later freed her after international outcry over the Saudi’s PATHETIC record on human rights, and mistreatment of women. This is another poor woman who made a bad choice to accept a ride from a male, and for her trust was gang raped. And according to good old islamic law (shariah) she is a whore and has to go to jail and be lashed 100 times. And of course, this could have been avoided if Saudiwomen were allowed to drive, instead of being treated like property.

Jeddah, gang-raped woman sentenced to prison, one hundred lashes

According to the judge, the woman is guilty of adultery and of accepting a ride from a stranger. Following her rape, she became pregnant, and will finish her pregnancy in prison. The one hundred lashes will be given after her baby is born.

Jeddah (AsiaNews/Agencies) – The victim of sexual violence after which she became pregnant, a 23-year-old Saudi woman has been condemned to one year in prison, and 100 lashes. The news has been reported by the Saudi newspaper Saudi Gazette, which says that the judge punished the woman because she is guilty of “adultery,” having accepted “a ride from a stranger.” The man and his friends abused her the entire night.

The court of the district of Jeddah handed down the sentence after the unmarried woman “confessed to having forced intercourse with a man who offered her a ride.” According to the young woman’s testimony, he took her to a house east of Jeddah, and, together with four friends, abused her the entire night.

Following the rape, the woman became pregnant; she was eight weeks pregnant when she went to the military King Fahd Hospital. According to the judge, the woman is guilty of “adultery” simply because she is not married, and she has been sentenced to a year in prison.

The hundred lashes will be given after she delivers the baby; the child will take his mother’s last name. In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive, and can ride in a car only if they are accompanied by a husband or relative. In recent days, Saudi princess Amira al-Tawil, wife of prince Al Walid Bin Talal, had defended the right to drive for all women in the country.

The worst part is the fact that her rapist got her pregnant, and she will have to remain in jail during her pregnancy. Isn’t islam just the epitome of putting women on a pedestal? Oh, and how compassionate, those hundred lashes can wait until after she has the baby. If only there was someone learned in the ways of TRUE islam, perhaps, I don’t know, that genius xkon who is always telling us that muslims are not living according to true islam. I imagine he would get out two sentences before the mutawwa’een took him to a cold dark cell, beat him, then sent him up for execution in Riyadh square, for blasphemy.

    That is plain sick.

    That is plain islam.

Whooo, don't they just love lashing everybody out there. But they ain't gonna stop just because they keep getting headlines about it.
  • JEWHAWK
This is another proof of how PRIMITIVE this so-called 'religion' is.This comes from
the very same country (actually an oil well with a flag)that gave birth and indoctrination
    to almost all 9/11 terrorists!!!
  • Kal_El
Frustrate? Little girl, if anyone here were frustrated by your hashing of the verses in the quran used by your brothers and sisters in faith to blow themselves up for allah, we would ban you or perhaps just ignore you. We egg you on because we enjoy watching islamists talk in circles, then congratulate themselves on winning a debate, when they have done nothing of the sort. And weren't you supposed to leave this forum?
  • not religious.
So does poverty, greed, anger, fear and almost every single human emotion. Guess what... sometimes religion can make a bad person do good things. If you are antireligion, then might as well be antiemotion. both cause harm, both can do good, both are part of the human experience.
  • Tonto
Honor killing to me would be when the girl's family hunts down her rapists and causes each one to die very slowly and painfully. But muz ain't got the 'nads for that.
  • straliangirl
If hope is believing in the lie that religion is, well then we are free to fantasize, but to insist that one fantasy is the only one, well that throws hope out the window.
Good people do good things and bad people do bad things, but it takes religion to make a good person do bad things.

Religion is not the root of all evil - just most of it.

Voltaire put it rather well when he said of Man, "Nature's only mistake."
  • Kal_El
Actually religion is not the root of all evil. Man is.

Who said anything about hate? Do you not have a problem with rape VICTIMS being jailed and publicly beaten?
  • Kal_El
Right, the world is not so bad after all. Tell that to the gang rape victim, you know, the girl sitting in a jail cell for the crime of being gang raped, as we see so many muslim gangs do all over. And your article says a decree will be issued by the end of the year, meaning sometime by the end of 2009. I like how you neglect to mention that the women have to be 30 years of age to drive alone in the cities, and with a relative anywhere else. Yeah, the muslim world is screaming modernity.
  • Robert
In this case it would be much fairer to say it is not the religion but it is most definitely the country. A country whole heartedly supported by the US even when a bunch of Saudi citizens murdered thousands of Americans in a terrorist attack. Sure the Bush administration was blatantly bought off, but what will the new Obama administration do, what will the new Secretary of State do, hmm or, is Hillary only a women's liberationists when it is convenient and wont affect corporate profits or the oil supply.

Well said, Ehutch. Remember Martin Luther's words? "Reason is the enemy of religion." I long to see the day (I shan't hold my breath, though) when reason triumphs over religion; when people can throw off the shackles of superstition and rejoice in the marvels of the universe without having to invent a weird, invisible God to "explain" it all. Fervent religionists abhor science because it threatens dogma, and religious thinking is based on dogma. They bask in the comfort of "certainty" while science is the playground of the skeptic. Scientists are delighted when their theories are shown to be incorrect, for new doors of exploration are immediately thrown open, but the religious can never bring themselves to accept views that fly in the face of their beliefs. Why do they hold such beliefs? Reason has nothing to do with it. They hold them because they were indoctrinated when they were infants, and the vast majority of such victims of brainwashing find it exceedingly difficult to throw off the ingrained shackles of such mental imprisonment. As Richard Dawkins said, "There are no Muslim or Christian children: only children of Muslim or Christian parents." Are there Democrat or Republican or Tory or Socialist children? Nope. We appreciate that such decisions can only be made when maturity is attained, yet people are happy to brainwash little ones - the brainwashing dependent upon an unhealthy dose of fear - into believing the existence of God. This is why Reason has a hard time of it in doing battle with superstition. I am rendered speechless when I read that something like 50% of Americans subscribe to the tommyrot of Intelligent Design, or whatever they call this mumbo jumbo. I was raised in Wales as a Christian and dutifully followed Christian teaching (much of which is wonderful and of huge benefit) through my childhood and youth, but even as a child doubts and uncomfortable questions nagged my mind. Increasingly, I came to doubt the existence of God (though not many of the teachings of Jesus), and this troubled me greatly, causing me loss of sleep. Ultimately, however, I had to throw my religious convictions away. Reason triumphed. What did it feel like? Like being released from prison. It's astonishing how religious believers react when they discover I am a non-believer. They look upon me as .......... hmm ...... sub-human is the best way I can put it. They try to convince me I am wrong: they do not respect my view; but I never, ever try to "convert" them to atheism. Of course, arguments ensue. Fine with me, but it always boils down to their saying, quite correctly, that I cannot disprove God. I have no intention of trying to do so, for no-one can ever do such a thing. How can one disprove the existence of the non-existent? The best I can do is to raise the issue of Bertrand Russell's teapot, but they fail to see the logic in that philosopher's argument: I cannot prove the teapot is not there, so it must be there! John Infidelesto very recently correctly pointed to Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot as examples of murderous atheists, but he was wrong in concluding (if he did) that in an atheistic world such monsters will flourish and that the world needs religion if it is to be spared such horrors.
I would love to see a world free of religion, but I would never subscribe to the view that religion should be stamped out or outlawed. While I have no respect for religion, I have every respect for those who hold religious beliefs as long as they do not try to force-feed their beliefs into others (such as defenceless infants .......!). The only religion that sickens me to the marrow is Islam, for it is a festering evil that poses an almost unimaginable danger to the welfare of the human race. People of all creeds, colours and religions commit foul deeds, but Islamicists do them in the name of their absurd Prophet, pigshit be upon him. Muslims delight in pointing out the tortures and murders committed in the name of Christianity - Central and South America, the Inquisition, the bestial excesses of the Crusaders, etc - but are blind to the fact that, unlike Islam, Christianity has moved on. "If they could do it then, we can do it now" seems to be their byword. They never advance in their thinking. It beggars belief that Muslim women tolerate the treatment they are meted out by their dominant males, although I confess I do not know how they might ever free themselves of their shackles. Ah, you say .... education will do the job! Yup, it would if it were allowed, but Muslims despise education and trample it underfoot at every opportunity, which is why, for all their huge numbers, Muslims contribute virtually damn-all to the advancement of human life. Christianity and Judaism no longer attempt to do this. Copernicus and Galileo won!

HOW ABOUT WE ALL HATE EACH OTHER JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE......

I THINK THAT WILL HELP US ALL EVOLVE, DON'T YOU.............??
  • ehutch
banning religion can never work. education is the only way. time is on our side and eventually, though it will take a long time, the middle east will catch up to the rest of the world. to put things in perspective... the USA is not as progressive as much of europe and asia. the middle east will undoubtably be the last to embrace science and reason.
  • You sound like a secular totalitarian. A perfect example of anti-freedom, anti-human rights. Think about what you're saying when you say "BAN all religions". Mao, Stalin and Polpot espoused atheism, and sought to repress religion in their respective countries. That's right, 3 of the worst genocidal murdering dictators the world has ever seen were atheists. What does that tell you about atheism? You wanna ban that too?

I don't agree with outright "ban" of Islam. I agree with halting Muslim immigration to this country as well as closely monitoring every single Mosque in this country and if there's an ounce of hate coming from ANY Imam, we should know about it and prosecute immediately. There should be NO tolerance for hate speech inside a mosque. Every Mosque should be wiretapped. We have to monitor what they're teaching the children.

are u actually kidding me. Religion is not the root of all evil, religion is something which gives alot of people a lot of hope, and usually contains something of decent human conduct. I am not religious in anyway as it does not offer the answers I look for, but a lot can and is learnt from religion and those who subscribe to it. Do u really think Muhammad would have condoned this? Do u really think Jesus would have condoned the Holocaust even tho Hitler was a 'Christian'? if u do, u need to learn much much more before you start making these broad, xenophobic, ignorant sensationalizations.

If you are prejudice to a whole set of people you are in league with the people who sentenced this poor girl. Surely this should be teaching us to be compassionate rather than wrathful. To understand differences first and intergrate this understanding into a society where all are valued.

Someones going to shout back that these rapist do not deserve to be valued, and i understand that. But if my above point was felt in any culture, irrespective of the religion prevalent in it, then this horrendous crime would have been avoided.

And for the record, the Qur'an states that women and men are equal, just different. it says these differences should be used to value each respectively and not make either subordinate to the other. This is where Saudi Arabia has failed, like many cultures before (including our own) and used the guise of religion to twist its meaning to its own ends. This is where the fault lies, with these men, not in religion per se.
  • The wonderful religion of islam, beat the hell out a woman that was raped. Barbarians.
  • "You have obviously ignored my posts in the Valentine's Day post."
Really? Why don't double check on that instead of making yourself look idiotic. You didn't even give me less than a DAY to reply to your post and you go around ASSUMING that I'm ignoring you or that I can't refute you. Do people have to reply to you the same second so you think that they're not "ignoring" you. Now THAT is quite PATHETIC.

    "Can't refute the truth. "
I already did. Let's just see how you're going to refute the "truth" regarding to my questions for you about your belief.

"God would not have sent the angel Gabriel to Mecca to tell Muhammad that he, the living God, has no Son!"
Of course God would not send Angel Gabriel to Mecca to tell Mohammad that God had no Son. God sent Angel Gabriel to Mecca to tell Mohammad that he would be the next Messenger that would preach the same Message as that of the Messengers before him,( that being Moses and Jesus)

    "God does not lie"
Of course God doesn't. That's why God sent Messengers for us to follow so that we would be guided.

"Boo Hoo. Be careful everyone, do not imitate xkon"

Are you asking people to not imitate me in my ways of being able to frustrate everyone who cannot respond to me through logic and evidence? If that's the case, then they couldn't imitate me even if they tried. So in fact your statement seems more of a warning than an advice.
  • Didn't realize that xkon had an exclusive copyright on pathetic. Oh, isn't that P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.

Boo Hoo. Be careful everyone, do not imitate xkon.

What is it about muslims, and their perceived victimhood.

You have obviously ignored my posts in the Valentine's Day post. Can't refute the truth.

In view of the special significance of the Qur'anic Christ, you must recognise the fact that 600 years after the supernatural birth of his only Son, God would not have sent the angel Gabriel to Mecca to tell Muhammad that he, the living God, has no Son! And the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, would never contradict and deny the historical facts of the crucifixion since the purpose of his Son's birth was to die on the cross to take away the sins of the world. God does not lie.

The usual and/but tosh from xcon Kal(he continues to defend the indefensible with wierd nonsequiturs).

What he is saying(as far as I can fathom)is that Islam has some strange beauty that only esotericists such as himself have the knowledge to appreciate and the hoi-polloi such as ourselves can't.
He seems to think that the great debate about"women drivers" signals a sea change in that benighted cesspool of stupidity known as the KSA.
His concept of "proof"is not the same as you and Iwould accept.
He's a living example of the mental disease that Islamic indoctrination can effect.
He/she is probably in awe of the retards who devote their life to learning that manual for terrorism(aka.the Qran) by heart.(extolled by the barbarians as the apotheosis of scholarship).
Hopefully he will reach the dec
ision at some stage that apostacy is the only sensible option.

And, on top of that, the assholes want to impose sharia law world wide? Not while I live!

I agree with Death Vult, but he left a few religions out. We should also ban: Baha'i Faith, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, and every other religion I don't have time to list from all parts of society.
  • This is why religion is the root of all evil. Islam is a mean, filthy, imoral, disgracefull religion and should be banned from society.
