Andy Roddick is our Infidel of the Month!! While the other useful idiots in the WTA were making a quick buck in Dubai, Andy Roddick stood firm on principle, despite having a title to defend. Good on him! I wish more athletes would stand up like he did, instead of being a bunch of me-first primadonnas (TO, and Alex Rodriguez, are good examples).
Roddick followed in some big footsteps with Dubai protest
(02-28) 17:46 PST — In civil-rights fights, typically the heavy lifting is done by members of the oppressed group. See: Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, Martha Burk.
So when a female tennis player from Israel was denied a visa to play in a big tournament in Dubai, it figured that any meaningful protest would come from a powerful woman tennis player (hello, Venus?).
Naw, they were all busy making money. The only noise came from the non-female, non-Jewish, non-political Andy Roddick.
Roddick withdrew from the men’s Dubai tourney even though he won his previous tourney, he is the Dubai defending champ, and the purse is huge-normous.
There is a tradition. When Arthur Ashe and Harry Belafonte organized an athletes-and-artists boycott of Sun City, South Africa, to protest apartheid, all the pro golfers boycotted the boycott and played Sun City anyhow.
Sun City also hosted a mega-bucks tennis tournament. One man who honored the boycott was John McEnroe. Now Johnny Mac has a tag-team partner.
I’m not putting Roddick in a class with King, Chavez & Friends. I am saying Andy requires a triple-re-enforced athletic supporter.
As for you tennis women and men who played Dubai, go ahead and give us your reasoning. Talk to the hand.
Hell no, not talk to the hand, all those useful idiots get is the finger. Yeah, THAT finger.

Well done Andy Roddick. Better get your police protection and safe houses sorted soon though.
