Gang rape just “harmless fun” says Lawyer (Bahrain)

Of course, I’m sure the victim probably deserved it by “provoking” the young men by not wearing her hijab.

The alleged abduction and gang rape of a woman was dismissed as harmless fun by a female defence lawyer in a Bahrain trial yesterday.

Three men accused of the attack should be acquitted because young people often commit crimes for “fun”, without criminal intent, said lawyer Fatima Al Hawaj.

The men, aged 19, 20 and 21, are accused at the High Criminal Court of snatching a Filpina off the street as she walked home from work at night, last September.

They allegedly drove her to an isolated area in Askar, gang raped her and then abandoned her, after stealing her mobile phone and purse.

All three deny abduction, rape and theft.

Ms Al Hawaj told judges that her clients were youngsters and that “minors’ often committed crimes for fun, without ill-intent.

“It is general knowledge that youngsters commit crimes for the fun of it and not with the intention to harm others and I request the court to take that into consideration and clear my clients of the charges,” she argued.

Where are the Feminists groups speaking out? I think cases like this are so common, how could they possibly keep up.  They may have a point.

    I hate this attitude they have. A human being is as much worht no matter if it is a child woman or a "man". I am not sure if those "men" really could be called "men" since they behave worser than animals.

    First of all, I can't believe the lawyer is a woman and not because of what she said, but because they actually have a female lawyer at all. How the hell did that happen? And second I amazed that this woman (the victim) made it to a court at all.
    It's not hard to see how this was laughed off as harmless fun for these guys when you considered everything they believe in relation to women. I am never as amazed at the barbaric and archaic and down-right evil take they have on the world as I think I should be. But the more you read and learn and see, the less I can think " this just cant be true". It can be true and it is true. An astounding capacity for cruelty, ignorance, fear of the modern world, fear and hatred of women, delusions of grandeur, love of violence, repression and control of as many people as possible. How they can attribute all this to god and call it religion is beyond me. God must be spinning in heaven and none too happy to have all this done in his name.

    I gotta admit that years ago the authorities did have the attitude that the raped female did something to entice or were asking for it. The victim was grilled in open court on her lifestyle and past sins were brought up, snide allegations were made and it was a general crucifixion in public with a vindication of the poor, blameless puke that raped her....a real travesty. We then went through a period where a female could just hint that there was some impropriety and the dude was sentenced to 20 years. Another travesty. Nowadays, in most places, there is a modicum of dignity and certainly more science involved. Female's stories have been debunked as often as men's....and the ass hats that rape, especially kids are scourged in court and get heavy time(and the girls can get time for false charges)....most have to have special handling in jail, especially pedophiles, or the inmates will kill them. Happily, we in the US have NEVER been as insane as the muz idiots and their sharia law where a woman making an allegation of rape must have 4 male holy muslim witnesses, nor are beatings, prison or death rewards for being raped. The muz are not only wrong on this, they're totally nuts!

    Disgusting. But, then again, I come from a small town in Georgia (United States) where less than ten percent of rapes are reported and the general attitude of the 'old school' police officers are "She was asking for it." or "She may have said no, but every woman wants dick."
    This sort of thing stopped surprising me years ago.

    You are correct. There are always those who take the view that women are "asking for it". Tell me, though: do the law courts of Georgia look upon rape by 20 year-olds as "harmless fun", and are the rape victims thrown into prison and given 100 lashes?

    No. Women are not given 100 lashes and imprisoned in Georgia, but that does not mean that justice is served when the offenders get away with lesser charges, such as 'aggravated battery' or 'illegal imprisonment' and get lighter sentences.

    You'll get no argument from me, Lady F, so don't think for a moment my comment indicates I am an apologist for the deeds of rapists of any cloth. They should all be horse-whipped to within an inch of their lives, and those in authority who treat them leniently should receive similar treatment. Their callous disregard of the victim's suffering and possible long-term trauma is an encouragement to other monsters.

    maybe to give the lawyer better perspective, her clients will gang rape her. After all she is in their presence with out a male family member. Then she can see for her self just how much fun it is and maybe even realize how ignorant she is.

    The reason the lawyer wants her jihadis in training acquitted is because the woman was a Filipina, and Arabs are notorious for treating south east Asians like nothing more than property. It happens in all the gulf countries I have been to in the past 5 years. Sometimes the maid escapes, sometimes she dies trying, sometimes she is raped, impregnated and deported.

Isn't it astonishing that she considers Muslims males of 20 years old to be not yet able to know right from wrong? How old must they be? 38? 53? A Jewish male is considered to be capable of adult thought at the age of 13, but for slow-developing Muslims, crime is only harmless fun when you are 20 years old.
