For years the West has thought that Fatah is the “moderate” group in palestine, which is why our government keeps pumping more and more cash into their pockets. Meanwhile, those who are actually informed about the history of Fatah, know that they may not be as radical as Hamas, but they sure as hell ARE radical.
Ramallah – Ma’an – Hamas should be allowed to keep its political positions even as it joins a transitional Palestinian government with Fatah, a senior Fatah member said on Saturday.
Ahmad Abd Ar-Rahman said in a statement sent to Ma’an, “Fatah is working forward to reaching agreement; it gave lots of initiatives within those meetings and ahead of them, and it still has the ability to cooperate with Egypt to reach a conclusion for the talks.”Abd Ar-Rahman’s come amid reports that negotiations among the rival Palestinian factions have broken down over the makeup of the next government and the timing and nature of elections.
According to some reports, impasse stems from a debate over the political platform of the government. The US has threatened not to recognize a Hamas-Fatah unity government that does not recognize Israel. The US, Israel and other countries led a boycott of the last Palestinian unity government formed in 2007 on the grounds that Hamas does not formally recognize Israel as a legitimate state.
