Afghanistan: Taliban Publicly Execute Couple for Eloping

Ah, the glories of Taliban rule.

HERAT, Afghanistan (Reuters) – Taliban militants publicly executed a man and girl on Monday for eloping when she was already engaged to marry someone else, an official said, in a sign of the grip the Islamists have over parts of Afghanistan.

Hashim Noorzai, head of Khash Rud district in southwestern Nimruz province, said the two were executed by gun shots in front of a crowd of villagers.

He said he had no details on how the Taliban had come to be involved in passing judgment on them but that much of the mainly desert district was under control of the militants.

Nimruz is a sparsely-populated area near the Iranian and Pakistani borders where foreign or government troops have little presence.

The key to dealing with the Taliban is to avoid being taken alive and try to take as many with you as possible. The newlyweds must have been a bit slow about thinking of that aspect of Pakistan reality. The muz are frickin' insane ya know? Jeeez oh Pete!

The Taliban has regained strength in Afghanistan because it has safe havens across the border in Pakistan where it can recruit and train. And, the mountainous terrain along the border provides routes that are hard to cover, between the two countries, much as the jungle did in Viet Nam. Unless we can secure the border and/or eliminate the safe havens, we will not be able to defeat the terrorists. On the other hand, they can not become strong enough to throw our forces out. But we probably don't have the resolve to fight a war on those terms forever. It may be possible for the Afhgan govt to become strong enough to secure it's own people, but is there time to do that before we decide to withdraw our fighting forces? Pakistan is the key. The best course would be for them to let our military occupy the provinces controlled by the Taliban and Al Qeada while they concentrate on securing the rest of their country, before their present govt falls.

President Bush deserves some credit for waging war against our military - jihadist - Islamist enemies; but I'm afraid while he employed effective military forces and tactics, he was strategically mistaken, and possibly intentionally so. President Bush never declared war on Political - Legal Islam, and that is why our enemies are still so active overseas as well as within own tent, and that is why President Bush will go down in history as a failure. A Democratic President would have been worse during the last eight years, because they would have shied away from any military response against the existential threat to America posed by jihadist (military) and political Islam; but the former President's failure to view and communicate this conflict in its widest and deepest dimensions, i.e.: both military and political - legal, has done immeasurable harm to the cause of sacred human liberty.

I don't know why more people in places like that don't own guns. If it was my son they were drawing down on, I'd get to blasting. Must be just a bunch of slow thinking retards living in that country. And who told the taliban about the young couple? That person needs killing too.
