by Infidelesto on April 18, 2009 · Comments

Propaganda-fest complete.  Chavez takes this very public opportunity, while the cameras are rolling, to exploit Obama’s weakness by insulting America, something he never fails to do at these summits

Great! Way to validate socialist dictators Obama! Now we hear about this from ABC’s Jake tapper:

The book Chavez gave Obama started the day w/Amazon rank of 54,295. now it’s 17.

We turned South America into a graveyard.

We funded right wing death squads with cocaine profits from American citizens .

I'm not saying that's a bad thing but maybe should look a little deeper.

On September 11, 1973, Pinochet, who twenty days prior had been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army by socialist president Salvador Allende, led a coup d'état which put an end to Allende's government, and, along with the Navy, Air Force and Carabineros (a national police force), established a military dictatorship. With active support from the CIA. The government implemented a series of military operations in which (according to the 1993 Rettig Report) over 3,200 people were killed, while (according to the 2004 Valech Report) at least 80,000 were incarcerated without trials and 30,000 subjected to torture. Another 200,000 people went into exile, particularly in Argentina and Peru, and applied as political refugees; however, some key individuals were followed in their exile by the DINA secret police, in the framework of Operation Condor which linked South American governments together against political opponents.

  • There's no doubt the CIA has made mistakes in the past. Decisions that have caused lives all over the world, but I would argue that they've also saved lives too.

From what I can gather, you're right about the CIA supporting the coup in Chile, but they did not support the terrible atrocities of Pinochet. They actively tried to "support the coup", but weren't directly involved in putting Pinochet in power, although after the coup, they had operatives who were close to Pinochet working for the CIA so we could keep taps on what was going on. What was the CIA supposed to do after Pinochet started murdering political dissidents? IT's a shameful story, but I don't see how all the blame rests at the hands of the CIA. The CIA primary interest is to look after US interests and protect the American people. that's what they're built for. Have they made grave mistakes? Of course... So what should we do? Abolish the CIA? Get rid of all our intelligence services like Ron Paul advocates?

    No thanks.

BTW, the CIA also supported the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union, and although they're our enemy now, it DID help win the Cold War thus was the correct decision during that time.
  • Chairman Oh and Red Hugo have a lot in common- both are arrogant narcissists with a racial victimhood complex... and are habitual liars.
    -
Both displayed contempt for democracy/opposition once elected- and are absolutely clueless re. economic manners. And both are out to serve a far-left agenda while dragging a bountiful nation into the abyss.
    -
So these two have plenty to chat about-
    -
Actually, I think I respect Chavez more than our guy- he might be a misguided socialist yahoo, but at least he admits it.

Eduardo Galeano's ideology fell with the Berlin wall,in 1989...
To believe that Obama will turn more left-winger than he already is
because of this book is ludicrous...I guess that he already has read it
while in college, along with Marx's DAS KAPITAL,together with his
    San Francisco-spirited pals.
If my father were alive,he wouldn't believe that a commie black is the
AMERICAN PRESIDENT.He'd say that this is a joke. But it is NOT.He
dreaded the Soviets like hell, for this he LOVED Maggie Thatcher and
Ronald Reagan, only to see a president APOLOGIZING for America's
"bad behavior" throughout the world, damn it!!

    1973 CHILE:

The CIA had an OBLIGATION to do what it did.Chile would turn into a
    COMMIE COUNTRY.
The CIA supported 1964's Brazilian Military Coup for the SAME reasons,
and thanks to that,I have a computer and Internet access to talk to you.
    If it weren't for America's strong anti-commie stance,Latin America
    would look like AFRICA today.
