Chinese Muslim inmates at Gitmo to be freed in U.S; China won’t take them

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is preparing to free into the United StatesChinese Muslims being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the first release of any of the detainees into this country, according to current and former U.S. officials.

The release is seen as a crucial step in plans announced by President Barack Obamaduring his first week in office to close the prison and relocate the detainees. 

There are 17 Chinese Muslims, known as Uighurs, at Guantanamo. A U.S. official familiar with the discussions of their release said as many as five to seven could be resettled in the U.S.

“reviewing the Uighurs detention, the inter-agency panel found that they weren’t the ignorant, innocent goatherds the White House believed them to be. The committee determined they were too dangerous to release because they were members of the ETIM terrorist group, the “East Turkistan Islamic Movement,” and because their presence at the al-Qaeda training camp was no accident. There is now no ETIM terrorist cell in the United States: there will be one if these Uighurs are released into the United States.”

    yes, free them in America. Move them in to obama's empty house in Chicago, should be more than enough room for them. I am sure bill ayers will enjoy the anti-American terrorist neighbors. Then when the somalian terrorist (oopps I mean "pirate") gets let go because no one read him his rights in his own gibberish, he can move in too. Cause ya know he will get "asylum" and a green card for testifying against the Navy for scaring him and killing his unemployed goat herder buddies.

  • It is quite possible that the Obama administration will become more dangerous than any terrorist organization out there. To allow people into this country that want to destroy it is simply unbelievable!

    We have been safe for some time now, but I think this administration will allow for the growth of terrorist cells in this country. Coupled with the weakness Obama has shown towards terrorist sponsoring nations and a cutback in defense spending could mean we are in for some serious troubles.

    Hopefully it takes them longer to organize something than it does for the next election to come around.

    This just shows how intelligent and thoughtful Obama really is. He has no idea what to do with any of the detainees from Gitmo, let alone these Uighars. There are still 240 in Gitmo, at least 60 of those will defintely be imprisoned or killed if they're sent to their home countries. But it was wrong to keep them in Gitmo? He was obviously keeping a campaign promise by closing Gitmo. Anyone with any sense at all would have made sure to make other arrangements for the detainess before actually closing it. Can there be any other word than stupid for this decision? Not to worry though, he's already topped it with the release of the "torture" intelligence memos. Could anyone do anymore to weaken the country unless they were trying?
    He promised change, he didn't promise good change.

    Because Taiwan is a democracy, therefore a natural ally. Taiwan is no threat to mainland China, other than it's prosperity as a captilist nation was an embarassment. Since China is now prospering itself, after adopting and adapting capatilist practices, it's no longer a threat in any form, but China would still like to end it's independence, so the US continues to try and guarantee it's safety.

China, and all infidel countries could make things easier for themselves if they would recognize, label and treat Islam as the terrorist orginization it is, instead of a religion. That would eliminate racism, religious discrimination, and Islamaphobia as defenses. And it's no worse than Islam labeling non-Muslims as infidels to justify the way they treat infidels.

    The Uighers decided to join the Jihadi band wagon just before the Beijing olympics.
    Prior to that there had been the odd skirmish that the chinks ruthlessly put down.
    Islam is seen in China as a nuisance silly religion ;but tolerated under strict state control.
    (an observer in every mosque;and all Imams have to have an official license).
    When a terrorist spectacular was threatened to coinside with the olympics;the full power of
    the state was applied (all the possible terrorists are now dead including the two who were captured).
    One monolithic ideology crushing the ambitions of another(how poetic!).
    Relations between China and Taiwan are very good with regular flights between Taipei
    and the mainland.
    Common sense trumping destructive ideology.
    The US decision is probably based on the conjecture ;that repatriating them to thePRC
    would(after a friendly chat)result in their exit from this life.

    This is one idea that the UK, US, EU and Australian Governments should adopt. After all, the filth- and hatred-laced diatribe coming out of the mouths of the ignorant clerics, mullahs and so on at ALL the UK mosques should be monitored strictly. Any hint of the usual hate-filled ignorant diatribe should earn an immediate arrest, and deportation - period. Time to start fighting the filth with their own weapons. The UK is not a moslem country, and I don't want it to be - ever.

    Unbelievable, mindboggling, hard to find words to deal with this situation. I know, Obama can give them rooms in the White House to show the nation there's no danger from these guys. I'm sure his wife and daughters won't mind entertaining them. The First family can set the example for the kind of hospitiality he expects the whole country to show. That would be true leadership.
