Dutch Supreme Court Rules Geert Wilders Must Stand Trial for Insulting Islam

Shameful blow to free speech and a win for Islamists in Europe.  Now the example has been set for the rest of Europe’s Islamists to pursue prosecution of anyone who insults Islam.

THE HAGUE (AFP)Far-right Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders lost a legal bid Wednesday to stop his pending trial for inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims.

“The attorney general is of the opinion that there are no grounds” for a further appeal, the Dutch Supreme Court said in a statement.

Lawyers for Wilders had sought to overturn a ruling by the Amsterdam Court of Appeals in January that he should be prosecuted for a series of public anti- Muslim statements, particularly for comparing Islam to Nazism.

“It is a political process,” Wilders responded in a statement on the Web site of his Freedom Party, or PVV, which has nine out of 150 seats in parliament.

“I am being prosecuted for saying about Islam what millions of Dutch think. Freedom of expression is at risk of being offered at the altar of Islam.”

    Sir,I sadly agree with each and every word of this thought.Liberals aren't attracted
    by the truth,what per se is already a big issue,but when one of them becomes the PRESIDENT of the most powerful nation on Earth (for the time being),the problem is,indeed,HUGE.
    When Bill Clinton was in office,I had no idea of what an American Liberal was...I
    thought it could be just a tree-hugger,naïve,global-warming-type of guy...NOW my
    assessment is much more complete.On top of all those "qualities" above mentioned,I
    regard American Liberals as DANGEROUS and RECKLESS.

    The only thing that Geert Wilders should be tried for is for being the cause of too much cheering by the people that see him pass wherever he goes. As for insulting islam? I think you guys probably know by now that I'd publicly piss on the koran and shit on the picture of mohammad if I thought I wouldn't be arrested for public indecency. What's to respect about islam anyway?????

    Since when is freedom of speech "far right?" Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of liberty, i.e.: real liberalism. Americans today who cling to the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and Constitution are not "Right Wing" they are Middle Wing. Only the Left Wing (Marxist philosophy of State ownership of individual property and liberty) and the confused American Middle call such Americans "Right Wing."

    So Muslims issue death threats and force Wilders into hiding, but that's OK. Yet Wilders, because he quotes from the Quran and has the guts to be honest about Islam, must stand trial?

    On another depressing note, Iran has just announced it has test fired a missile that can hit Israel, and also US bases in the region. Obama, though, has made it clear to Netanyahu that Israel is on her own and there is no support for any pre-emptive strike:

    I think I've seen that being advertised. I have no doubt that Israel is in the gravest danger at present and not least because Obama is hellbent on selling out the Jewish state in order to try and bribe Iran to shelve its nuclear project.

    I think the only answer is for Americans who support Israel to get together and organise some MASS protest. Obama won't want to alienate a large number - read this post for more info on how America is freezing out Israel in terms of acquiring much needed technology to make a pre-emptive strike on Iran:

This trial might prove to be a double-edged sword, for a man of Wilders' intelligence, having reason on his side, will acquit himself well and will surely illuminate the entire problem with his radiant logic. It might prove to be the rallying point for the forces of sanity.
