Four American Jihadists arrested in NYC Terror Plot

Four men due in court Thursday to face charges of plotting to bomb Jewish sites and shoot down military planes were arrested after planting what they thought were explosive devices near a synagogue and community center, authorities say. 

Federal authorities announced the arrests of James Cromitie — a.k.a “Abdul Rahman,” David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen, all of Newburgh, on charges arising from a plot to detonate explosives near a synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and to shoot military planes located at the New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh with Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles. 

The suspects were arrested shortly after planting a mock explosive device in the trunk of a car outside the Riverdale Temple and two mock bombs in the backseat of a car outside the Jewish Center, authorities said. 

Police blocked their escape with an 18-wheel truck, smashing their tinted SUV windows and while apprehending the unarmed suspects. 

Meantime, New York City’s mayor and police commissioner reassured Bronx worshippers following the revelations that the four men plotted to bomb their Jewish temple.

Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Raymond Kelly met privately with congregants Thursday inside the Riverdale Temple. Kelly said neighborhood security was heightened to improve residents’ “comfort level.” 

Kelly reiterated that the men allegedly “wanted to commit Jihad.” Bloomberg warned against stereotypes. The mayor stressed that the temple is open to people of all faiths, including a Muslim girl who sometimes prays there. 

“They stated they wanted to commit jihad,” Kelly said. “They were disturbed about what was happening in Afghanistan and Pakistan, that Muslims were being killed. They made statements that if Jews were killed in this attack that would be all right.”

The investigation had been under way for about a year. 

In talking to the FBI informant, Cromitie expressed interest in one day returning to Afghanistan, of dying a “martyr” and wanting to do “something to America”. When discussing the best targets, Cromitie allegedly told the infomant, “the best target (the World Trade Center) was hit already. When the conversation turned to attacking a synagogue, Cromitie allegedly said, “I hate those Jewish “expletie.” I would like to get a synagogue. 

“This latest attempt to attack our freedoms shows that the homeland security threats against New York City are sadly all too real and underscores why we must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent terrorism,” New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement Wednesday night. 

Memo to Obama:  The war on terror is very real and should not be looked at as “policing” those “crimainal acts” of  ”man caused disasters”

“It’s not exactly al-Qaeda,” said one law enforcement official. Indeed, the 4 home grown terrorists caught after an FBI sting operation were not trained by the terrorist group or funded by them.

But they were inspired by them. And to ignore the fact that 3 of the suspects were radicalized by Islamic extremists in prison only points to the folly of thinking that you can treat terrorists as “criminals” and not as people at war with the United States.

    According to an Associated Press report, the four men charged with planning to blow up synagogues and military planes, “Were amateurs every step of the way. They had trouble finding guns and bought cameras at Wal-Mart to photograph their targets. One was a convicted purse snatcher, another smoked marijuana the day the plot was to be carried out.”

    The report continues,”Relatives said the defendants were down-on-their-luck men who worked at places like Wal-Mart, a landscaping company and a warehouse when they weren’t behind bars. Payen’s lawyer said he was “intellectually challenged” and on medication for schizophrenia. Marilyn Reader said he has “a very low borderline” IQ.”

    Of course, it was only after an FBI informant radicalized these bums and provided them with weapons that they became any kind of threat, providing the feds the opportunity to swoop in, declare a victory in the war on terror and use the case as a poster child for Americans to accept police state measures and believe the hype surrounding “domestic terrorists” in the wake of controversy surrounding the MIAC report.

    As the AP article concedes, “Some have criticized informants’ roles in such cases, saying they egged on and ensnared suspects who weren’t dangerous.”

    The New York Times buried the fact that the men were Muslims way down in the story. It also left out a key quote from one of the men.

    The New York Post had more integrity and both made it clear that this was Islamic terrorism, as well as printing the quote. I won't reproduce it here but I'm sure you can imagine the type of thing, as it included 'f-----g jews'......

    Can you imagine if it was Jews or Christians that had hatched such a plot??? All the media would emblazon the faith involved, there would be no sanitising of language!

    They wanted to "commit jihad" is a poor choice of words. They wanted to commit a terrorist act in the name of jihad would be much more accurate. And, as usual, these 4 missed the point that the reason Muslims are dieing in Afghanistan and Pakistan is because they are already making jihad there, and it's mostly Mulsims killing Muslims as a result. And, there are few if any Jews involved in the fighting in Afghanistan or Pakistan. But then, they probably hate Jews because that's what Muslims are taught.

    The thing that concerns me about the "fact that 3 of the suspects were radicalized by Islamic extremists in prison" is that that's where Obama would like to place at least some of the prisoners from Gitmo. That's like planting weeds in a fertile field.
