Christopher Lenget, the middle-aged director of a school for computer science and languages in a low-income neighborhood of Nouakchott, was getting out of his car in front of the school, when two young men tried to kidnap him.
He resisted and was killed…
An American aid worker who resisted an attempt to kidnap him was shot dead in the Mauritanian capital Tuesday. Reports quoting police said the attackers were suspected members of the north African branch of al-Qaeda.
The attackers fired shots on Lenget’s face and head before speeding away in a car, reports quoting witnesses and police said. Representatives of the U.S. embassy visited the site of the crime. Islamist extremism is on the rise in this north-west African nation.
