Egypt: French salafists expelled after attack in Cairo

by Claudia on July 7, 2009 · Comments

In a month, more than 20 alleged French extremists have been expelled from Egypt. “Twenty French extremist Muslims who have been arrested in connection with the terrorist attack in Cairo in February have been little by little expelled”, a speaker of the Egyptian security services has told,  under anonimity.

According to a report by the Egyptian newspaper Al-Masri Al-Youm, an ongoing investigation into the February 22, 2009, bombing in the Al-Hussein Square in Cairo turned up startling evidence of al-Qaeda’s connections in Gaza and of the group’s operations in Egypt. Accused by police of perpetrating the attack at the popular tourist spot, which killed a French girl and injured two dozen others, are three Belgians, a man from France, another from the United Kingdom, two brothers from the PA and five Egyptians.

Several of the Europeans in the terror cell reportedly underwent arms and explosives training by Palestinian Authority factions in Gaza, where they also received funding. After making their way into Egypt and joining the Arab cell members, according to police, the group perpetrated the Cairo bombing and was planning to attack Israeli targets in Egypt.

Interesting to note that meanwhile this has posed NO outrage in Egyptian media, the murder in Germany of an Egyptian Muslim woman who was wearing a hijab by a neighbour, has made several front Islamic figures ask for vengeance against the murderer.

    Why were they only expelled?

Yes, Muslim terrorism has been successful in creating a double standard for itself world wide. They can react anyway they want to any perceived affront, but no one dares to react to their overt terroristic acts because of the threat of worse acts if they do. But in the end, all the world gets for it's timidity is more terrorism anyway.
  • I think that they have been expelled for not having Egyptian nationality, not for being terrorists. The problem is that these guys possibly are now in France and nothing is said about being extradited nor condemned because of these facts. So I believe (nothing is said, I repeat) they have just being transported to France and they are free there, as no formal accusation was made against them.

all the world gets for it's timidity is more terrorism anyway.

    I agree: absolutely.

I asked why they were ONLY expelled, why weren't they tried for what they were arrested for?
  • Oops, sorry. I don't have any idea about the reasons why they were only expelled. It doesn't seem logical neither just, does it? But then there is no mention in the links why they weren't tried.
