To think about that time when the Green Zone was the ONLY safe place to be, when handfuls of injured/dead soldiers were coming in everyday to the hospitals and the war seemed like it was starting to slip away, when Harry Reid was declaring the war “was lost”, when Dems were screaming that we should get out Vietnam style, cause you that Cambodia thing, it never happened, when George Bush ordered the “Surge”. Things were on the brink, but we overcame the adversity and did the right thing. We finished the job thanks to all the brave men and women who never gave up on their mission.
And that leads us to this historic headline.
Iraq’s Green Zone Free of U.S. Soldiers
A reporter from the Saudi-owned London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsatwas invited, along with other reporters, to visit the Green Zone where the U.S. and U.K. Embassies are located, as are Iraq’s central government offices.
The reporter writes that she failed to see a single U.S. soldier in the area, with the exception of two Hummer vehicles accompanying security guards leaving the U.S. Embassy.
The Green Zone is now completely under the control of the Iraqi security forces.
