Wearing pants in a country run by shariah if you are a woman? That’s a flogging.

Sudan women ‘lashed for trousers’

A group of Sudanese women has been flogged as a punishment for dressing “indecently”, according to a local journalist who was arrested with them.

Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, who says she is facing 40 lashes, said she and 12 other women wearing trousers were arrested in a restaurant in the capital, Khartoum.

She told the BBC several of the women had pleaded guilty to the charges and had 10 lashes immediately.

Khartoum, unlike South Sudan, is governed by Sharia law.

Several of those punished were from the mainly Christian and animist south, Ms Hussein said.

Non-Muslims are not supposed to be subject to Islamic law, even in Khartoum and other parts of the mainly Muslim north.

She said that a group of about 20 or 30 police officers entered the popular Khartoum restaurant and arrested all the women wearing trousers.

“I was wearing trousers and a blouse and the 10 girls who were lashed were wearing like me, there was no difference,” she told the BBC’s Arabic service.

Ms Hussein said some women pleaded guilty to “get it over with” but others, including herself, chose to speak to their lawyers and are awaiting their fates.

Under Sharia law in Khartoum, the normal punishment for “indecent” dressing is 40 lashes.

Ms Hussein is a well-known reporter who writes a weekly column called Men Talk for Sudanese papers. She also works for the United Nations Mission in Sudan.

    Is it any wonder that the Chritians and Animists have fought one of the longest wars in history to throw off the yoke of the barbarians to the north.
    They persuaded John Garang that they sought peace;but he was"mysteriously"killed in a helicopter crash.(I don't believe in that type of coincidence).
    Their president has been charged with war crimes;butrefuses to appear in the Hague to
    answer said charges.
    Muslims seem incapable of shame at such events;but are ever ready to bleat when anyone questions their insane culture.

    No, the Taliban did just that in Afghanistan, dressing like women after the
    Marines kicked their asses in a firefight. The Marines stopped firing
    because the jihadis were using human shields (AGAIN, what a shock). They let
    the women and children leave, and the taliban pukes snuck out with them.

    Hamas did and does exactly the same.It's a COWARD'S PATTERN.They
    call this "resistance",as they also send men and women wearing suicide-belts to
    kill iraqis waiting on a line to buy food,at a bus stop,israelis eating pizza,israelis
    at a wedding party...

    Funny how they love that word "resistance"...they copied from the French
    Resistance during WWII,unfortunately the similarities stops right there,as
    the Frenchmen did not wage a TERROR CAMPAIGN against german civillians.

This was obviously planned and carried out with official approval. And it it took 20 or 30 officers to arrest 10 women? I guess they were expecting trouble and wanted to be sure they could handle it. The odds sound about right for Muslims.

    Does anyone think this will ever end? Hell...I'm 45...and I've been hearing on the news about the "Middle East peace process" since I was a kid...and it appears we are no closer to a solution now than we ever were. Are the cultural differences just absolutely insurmountable? We are destined to inflict pain on each other in perpetuity? That...I suspect...is our ultimate failing...and I hang my head in shame that I can not be part of a solution. We are creative enough to map the human genome and bring soil samples from Mars...and yet look at us. As a race, collectively...the human race...we should be ashamed of ourselves.

    It will be a sad day for all women when Sharia Law comes to the Western World. An islam women is better off than her sister in the Western world. I don't think so! I have never heard of a women being flogged for wearing pants in Australia, England, Russia, Germany, France, etc. Why aren't the Muslim women demonstrating in the streets? Oh, I forgot -- they need to be accompanied by a man or have a note from a man in order to go anywhere in public. Wake up! Stop being slaves. You have human rights just like a man.

    islam is indeed,a PEACEFUL faith and so forth.They called this blog "hateful"...

    I do strongly believe that without having the Left as an ally,we're DOOMED,
    for political bipartisanship is vital to defend ourselves.

    Unfortunately,I do not believe that this bipartisan effort will happen at all,for
    shortly after 9/11,the democrats already were criticizing Bush's patriot act,a
    vital piece of legislation that gave the tools to combat terrorism.

    At the end of the day,I'm afraid that the forces of darkness will prevail.
