Iran: Christian women jailed, face possible execution

I recall hearing claims about how other faiths are tolerated in Iran, and how they supposedly co-exist. Maybe I am wrong, but coexistence doesn’t include being jailed for not being muslim, in my book…

Concerns Over Detained Iranian Christians Amid Political Turmoil (BosNewsLife In-Depth)

TEHRAN, IRAN (BosNewsLife)– As the world focuses on the political turmoil in Iran, two detained Christian women are “in danger of being forgotten” amid concerns they may face execution, Iranian Christians said Tuesday, July 7.

Marzieh Amirizadeh, 30, and Maryam Rustampoor, 27, have been held for over four months in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison apparently for converting to Christianity from Islam.
Iranian Christians and rights investigators said the two young women, who were arrested March 5, suffered sleep deprivation as part of police interrogations and were held in solitary confinement for three weeks in May and early June.
Later, they were put together in one small cell for about two weeks before being moved to a larger area to make place for other inmates, including many protesters who were detained following last month’s disputed presidential elections,  said Christians with close knowledge about the situation.
About 600 women were reportedly brought to Evin prison during the protests.
EXECUTION PENDING?
There was still no clarity regarding the case of the two Christian women, Tuesday, July 7, with one judge reportedly telling them they were both to be executed as ‘apostates’. “Maryam and Marzieh have responded with courage, however, telling the judge to ‘expedite his sentence’,” said Pray for Iran, an Internet initiative of Iranian churches.
After international pressure, the Iranian Government’s Parliamentary Committee reportedly removed articles stipulating the death penalty for apostasy from the Islamic Penal Code Bill, but the changes have to be approved by legislators.
“Until the Islamic Penal Code Bill is finalized by the Iranian Parliament and Guardian Council, there is still a danger that the judicial committee’s revisions may not be taken into account,” explained Alexa Papadouris,  Advocacy Director of Britain-based Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a religious rights group.
Apostasy along with murder, adultery, rape, armed robbery, and drug trafficking are all punishable by death in Iran, and last week Iranian media reported that at least six people were hanged for murder in the same prison where the two Christian women are held.

"...and last week Iranian media reported that at least six people were hanged for murder ..."

Funny how the mainstream media fails to report such executions in Iran while
all the hell break lose when someone is executed in America.
Nobody boycotts iranian goods for this, but they do with israeli-made stuff
in Europe for mistreating the poor "palestinian people" and for laying a "siege"
    against the Gaza Strip.

The Human Rights Groups are so biased against Israel that they DARE to draw
a comparison between Israel and countries such as SYRIA,IRAN,SAUDI ARABIA and EGYPT,in a sordid attempt to not be perceived as "unbalanced" in those neanderthalesque countries.

For this, the Human Rights NGO's don't deserve to have any credibility.

Check this out for real "in your face" statements from Muslims regarding their agenda in the UK (and world wide of course).

    Great post,Southwood!

People doesn't have a clue about what Islam represents. They
    still believe that it's a "religion of peace",that Al-Qaeda doesn't
translate with accuracy what Islam is all about...

They need to know what muslims plan to do simply by hearing
what the muslims themselves are saying. It's freaky, but true.

More people should know that Islam reeks of DEATH.It's
    EVIL to its very core.

I consider the United Kingdom LOST.The British Government
decided to PUNISH Israel,instead...they cancelled some military
gear exports to Israel because of "Operation Cast Lead" against
    HAMAS.

This is BIZARRE,but coming from Number 10,it's actually understandable.

    JEWHAWK,

You are right. Islam does reek of death. It is evil. The two Christian women will be suffering much worse than any Guantanamo prisoner and they are innocent but no outcry from the media on this. It is tragic.
As for the UK, our government are committing national suicide like Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. I have watched this decline over the years especially in the New Labour era. It is simply astonishing. People don't know what's coming next. These videos should be shown on prime time TV to educate people.

    Liberal liberal liberals

that's the cause of all problems, Spain will be a Muslim majority in 4 decades when it comes to children under 10.... So much for the Great Spanish kindom that Promoted Roman Catholicism in Latin America..

A reason for this mass Muslim immigration is our low fertility rate, we would not need them if ours was the rate as the Muslims, so can u really blane them for bringing immigrants of a growing economy into a shrinking population?

I do think we should stick with our formal christian colonies, that way, religion problems wont be the issue, which happens to be with every country that lets Muslims in, like the UK (god help them) and the netherlands

You have to understand that Christianity has been threatening islam for centuries. The minute some one questions the truth of the koran (which is supposed to be the undiluted words of God) and finds that the koran is full of totally provable falsehoods and inaccuracies, the religion begins to fall apart. All Christianity must be stamped out in muz areas because if it isn't, and is allowed to proliferate....there goes islam.....bye-bye. The mullahzoids and imommies don't like that idea. They have total power and want to keep it that way.
  • southwood
    Tonto,

That is an excellent point. On British TV or radio no discussion of the Koran is heard. The muslims obviously do not want this and that is why. If they demanded it they would get it from the appeasing cowardly government. But they know that it would be torn to shreds. The koran would be exposed as violent, intolerant and inaccurate (it says the Christian trinity is the Father, Son and Mary instead of Father, Son and Holy Ghost ). It was written by one of the most evil men who ever lived. It is an abomination. But millions of Muslims are converting to Christianity in Islamic countries like the two women in the report above. The mullahs and imams are enraged beyond belief. Islam will not prosper in the long run but in the meantime it causes outrageous violence, persecution and repression.
  • Tonto
Yes, and in the meantime, the murders, repression, enslavement, and all the assorted ugliness that beats on the rest of the world, and indeed, the muz themselves, goes on and on. Pitiful!
  • PRAY, show the same courage and care for the people as these two blessed sister in Jesus Christ. Let those of us as I, who request to receive updates and how ever can help for these women and any other in similar situations or in jail, please respond. Many prayers from here, churches are going up. Bless you, In Jesus Name
