The people of Afghanistan look to be waking from their slumber, realizing who the real enemy is. It’s not the US, NATO, et al. It is the Taliban. Good on those villagers for standing up to evil.
Afghan Villagers Kill Taliban Militants
Villagers in the eastern Nangarhar province killed at least three insurgents and held 11 others, officials said
A top police official in the province said that a group of Taliban militants raided the house of a police officer in Achin district Friday night, but the locals took up arms and fought the insurgents.
“Two of the killed Taliban insurgents were foreigners,” said Gen Mohammad Ayub Salangi, Nangarhar’s Police Chief.
The official further said that a senior Taliban commander has been also killed in the fighting with the villagers.
This is the first time that locals in Afghanistan stood up against Taliban insurgents.
The 11 detained militants, who are Pakistani citizens, said they were told that ‘infidels’ rule in Afghanistan.
Local villagers in the Achin district of Nangarhar have agreed not to allow any armed groups to operate in the district.
Taliban fighters have intensified their activities as the date for the second presidential election in the post-Taliban country is drawing closer.
The Afghanistan presidential and provincial council elections will be held on August 20 amid tight security.
Looks like the people are sick of the misery wrought by the Taliban, much like the Pakistanis, who are also beginning to take up arms against the Taliban. This could be a turning point, much like the Anbar Awakening in Iraq. One can hope, right?
