Spain: Police arrest 3 in a mosque, Muslims announce protests

by Claudia on July 29, 2009 · Comments

THREE arrests were made at Palma’s main mosque in Calle Joan Mestre after police followed a North African suspect into the building. The Police say that he failed to stop for a roadside vehicle check and fled into the Mosque, so they followed him.

He was arrested together with the president of the Moslem Defence League and the mosque caretaker, both of whom had reportedly tried to prevent the police from entering the premises

While Muslims have announced they will protest out in the streets because of the “outrage” this has caused in their community, politicians have nearly blamed the police for this “attack on the Muslim world”. Police unions have defended themselves from the accusations in a press release:

(…) The police didn’t act because of ethnic or racial reasons and there is no reason to consider this as an “attack on the Muslim world”, but just as a consequence of the police duty to respect and defend the rule of Law without making distinctions between citizens.

Authority principle can’t be broken because 100 people appear in front of the police headquarters, menacing with “assaulting it if the arrested men are not freed”.

In the end, the police have asked for the dimmission or expulsion of the Local Councilman of Citizenry’s Security.

The way Muslims react in these situations says a lot about the psychology fostered by their beliefs. Any other religion in a similar situation may feel the same way about the violation of their sanctuary, but they would most likely still react respectfully to the law. No religion should put their law above the law of the land, because the law of the land tries to protect eveyone regardless of their personal beliefs. So no matter how Muslims try to present themselves in words, their actions again put the lie to them.

I do not respect Spain and the Spaniards. They elected Zapatero after
the Madrid bombings in lieu of Aznar. That was a grave mistake. It brought
    PLEASURE to Al Qaeda's leadership.
Voting for Zapatero was a major political victory for the muslims, for it
proved once and for all that terrorism PAYS OFF.If it worked like a Rolex
watch in Spain, why not repeating it elsewhere?

    They WILL.
  • Thanks Jewhawk. I am Spanish.
There are other problems in Spain (such as nationalisms in some regions or the lack of explanation by Aznar's Government about why Spain should enter in the Iraqi intervention) which played an important part in the switch of the votes. Of course, most of the international commenters think that a simple explanation is better.
Lastly, no country in the world has been fighting jihadis for 800 years and overcome them. Except Spain. AQ's happy? Its ancestors (almohads, almoravids and benimerins) also conquered Spain and were later fought and expelled.
But hey, don't respect us. I, at least, am not here to merit respect, just to report about what happens.
(By the way, Aznar was not presenting himself to get elected in 2004 elections. And his heir, Rajoy, has proved to be absolutely inept, coward and complacent with Zapatero).

Well, what could I expect from a WESTERN country who only established
diplomatic relations with Israel in 1986 and that only because was under
    pressure to do so?

Besides fighting the jihadis,it seems that you forgot that the Catholic Royal
Family also didn't appreciate the Jews very much, because Spain EXPELLED
its Jewish population in 1492.Those who did not leave, were forced to CONVERT
    to Catholicism.

How sweet.Should I thank you for that?
Nope.I should thank you for the INQUISITION.
    Muchas gracias,señor!

    "But hey, don't respect us"

I don't.You do not deserve it.

Should Al Qaeda strike Spain again,I won't feel sorry,as I did in 2004.
    No más.

You'd think after the train bobbing in Madrid that the Spanish police would be given free license to act and investigate???
But no; it would seem that the virus of cultural equivalence has infected even there.
I'm beginning to see politicians in the same way that I see estate agents.
Islamist prophylaxis should be seen as a priority everywhere!
  • The best thing was that the Muslims who didn't want to let the police enter the premises, said that:
the sanctuary of a mosque should be respected in the same way as that of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.

The interesting thing is that there is no "sanctuary" nowawdays in churches or synagogues IF someone is caught in a crime. This guy didn't stop when he was asked, so that is a crime of not obeying authority. End of story. =)
