Jordan: Rape victim killed by uncle to cleanse family honor

by Kal El on August 12, 2009 · Comments

Chalk up another honor killing to the religion of peace. Another life snuffed out. Again I must ask, where the hell are the women’s rights groups? Where are the muslim women who insist that islam liberates women, elevates them, guarantees their rights? Why no outcry from any of them?

Raped girl killed over family ‘honour’

A 41-YEAR-OLD Jordanian man was charged with premeditated murder after his raped teenage niece was shot dead on Tuesday to “cleanse” the family’s honour, police said.

“The man was arrested and charged after he shot the 16-year-old girl eight times in different parts of her body,” in the Nasser area east of Amman, a police source said.

“The suspect, who was arrested while carrying his gun, confessed to the crime, saying that he wanted to cleanse his family’s honour after his niece was raped last year. She gave birth to a baby boy two months ago and her family kept the child.”

Murder is punishable by the death penalty in Jordan, but in the case of so-called “honour killings”, a court usually commutes or reduces sentences, particularly if the victim’s family urges leniency.

Between 15 and 20 women are murdered each year in Jordan in the name of honour, despite government efforts to fight such crimes.

Parliament has refused to reform the penal code to ensure harsher penalties.

This has NOTHING to do with religion, but messed up culture.
  • Islam is entirely cultural if you hadn't noticed. the religious element is only one aspect of a complete system. there are social, political and militaristic aspects also. Islam is a complete system of life.

It's a shame idiots like you spew your ignorance and could care less about the issue. Either that or you're an Islamist yourself. So which is it?

Foolish remark. The culture of any people will be composed in part of their religious beliefs. Consider this. Jesus said that a tree will be known by its fruit. He observed that men do not pick figs from thorn bushes. The fruit of every culture associated with Islam has been death, destruction, perversion, maiming of youth, suffocation of intelligence and beauty and the blood of violent repression everywhere.

There are Muslim women who are speaking up for reform. They need to be heard and receive encouragement because they could make a difference. A book that profiles these courageous women from all over the world has just been published:
Muslim Women Reformers: Inspiring Voices Against Oppression by Ida Lichter

It's a good read and very moving.

    Helen Wheeler:
Do you honestly believe that a mere book, written by someone with a
jewish-sounding name is gonna make a difference?
    Of course not.

    Islam can't change.

    Nobody can change it.

The one who TRY,will be killed.A fatwa
issued to kill whomever speak about changing the Hadiths
or the Qu'ran will imediately take care of him.

That's why Islam is frozen in time, but ,unlike the Siberia's mamooth,
    it just can't be thawed.On its present calendar,still is 622 A.D.

"Islam can't change." "Nobody can change it."

Behold the truth, ladies and gentlemen!

    I just can't understand muslim rationale.It's beyond
    anything I've been reading,learning,understanding
    throughout my entire life.

Only in science fiction movies I do find some parallel
between islamic traditions and another culture...maybe
    nothing on Earth could.

Islam has a complete ALIEN rationale, thus my hard time to
find in it some vestige of enlightment, wisdom, common
    sense,morality,humanity,decency,humility,altruism and
above all, usefulness to the rest of mankind.

It's a complete and total brainwash from birth. Outside influence is FORBIDDEN in muz societies. If any outside influence does show up.....well, you've seen what they do....they annihilate it!

"Where are the muslim women who insist that Islam liberates women, elevates them, guarantees their rights? Why no outcry from any of them?" Because if they don't say what they're told to say and keep their mouths shut when they're told to, they will suffer the same way this girl did, by being beaten at least, or murdered if their man decides it's necessary. And if a Muslim woman responds to this by denying it, I'm sorry, I can't believe you because you are Muslim, and Muslims lie, or can be forced to lie, to protect your "religion". When I see the murders, beatings, and many other visible signs of women's secondary status in Islam stop, then I may believe you, if you still defend Islam.
  • Beejj
Well said, Sir W. Let's see if any of these verminous lowlifes respond to you.
  • funkybarfly
Well it seems that after careful consideration this muslim yokel and sycophant for allah decided to kill the rape victim to rid himself of HIS indignation and HIS........embarrassment!
    Honour among muslims.
  • Tonto
A "good" muz wouldn't know "honor" if it bit him right in his ass. I spit on muz. I'd be willing to bet that many muz would rather be something other than muz but are kept from making that break by ignorance and fear of being murdered over it.
  • Beejj
Hell, Tonto, you always cut straight to the guts, don't you? Thank God (or something) we have you on this site.
  • Tonto
    'preciate it.
