Militants behind the hotel bombings in Jakarta also planned to use snipers to attack Barack Obama’s convoy, according to an intelligence expert.

A link between the suicide bombings at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels on July 17, which killed nine people and wounded 53, and funding from a group linked to Al Qaeda is also being investigated, Dynno Chressbon, from the Centre for Intelligence and National Security, said.

He said that two of the four wanted suspects, Ario Sudarso and Mohamad Syahrir, had been trained for an attack on Obama, who is expected to visit Indonesia before the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in Singapore in November.

“For Obama, they planned to attack the convoy around the airport using MK-IIIs,” he said, referring to a Russian-made sniper rifle that he said was used by the Taliban in Afghanistan and in Muslim conflict areas in the Philippines.

(…) The alleged snipers were from a group called the Indonesian Islamic State, which has a training camp in the restive southern Philippines and received support from a group headed by the Malaysian-born militant Noordin Mohammad Top, Chressbon said.

    President Obama's father was Muslim. In the eyes of Islam, this automatically makes him Muslim. Being the leader of the infidel world as a Muslim, in the eyes of Islam, makes him Apostate. Islamic law is quite clear on this issue and has been generally enforced for 1400 years. Of course, anytime one is at war against another government, the enemy leadership is naturally a prime target.

    A big problem here is that many people see terrorists as being only criminals. The way that you fight criminals is with law enforcement agencies. Many other people see Islamic terrorists engaged in Jihad as soldiers in an enemy army, an army that does not wear uniforms, carry their arms openly, nor are they supported by any government. Quite simply, they are to be treated like pirates or spies. The international rules are quite liberal when viewed in this way.
  • So, what's the point in your commentary? You appear to suggest that going after war criminals is bad, even though there are criminals that plot against the life of the President of the US.

    Torture is a war crime, and it doesn't work, so there's no solid justification to support any US torture policy or criminals who aided and abetted its use. In addition, that terrorists threaten us doesn't mean we should toss out rule of law to take them out. We can't have it both ways - we can't violate US and international law (that we helped write) while we go against terrorists and others criminal organizations who violate US and international law.

    The point of my comment is that these guys are used to behead, maim, torture and kill people without any kind of consideration for their victims, whether they are military men or 6-year-old-children. I'm not for torture and I am for Human rights but the problem is that being so savage these guys are not respecting the "compassionate" guys. Of course, they are then going to cry about being "tortured" even if "torture" has meant in some cases that a woman was naked in front of them (if I would have been one of that woman, I would have accused of torture my superiors for obliging me to be naked in front of such thugs) or blowing cigar smoke at them as Infidelesto has told you before. I mean: when you have terrorist guys who gauged eyes out and cut balls of prisoners, listening to ACDC or Britney Spears' music can't be even construed as torture. Even if you don't like that music.
    And the point is the CIA operatives who employed unlawful methods have already being tried (it's in the links above, just in case you haven't read them). So, this is not to pursue unlawful interrogations, at all. If you are intelligent enough, you can understand that.

    You say "torture" doesn't work, you need to specify what torture you mean, and provide evidence it doesn't work. The recently released documents of the methods used on the terrorists captured after 9/11 seem to indicate they did work, call them what you will, so, what are you talking about? The methods used were screened and vetted by the Justice Dept at the time, so who tossed out the rule of law? Where's your evidence that US or international law was violated? Terrorists are non-combatants and are not covered by law, they are the ultimate outlaws. There is not one bit of substance to your words Smug Baldy, it is all tired rhetoric.
