New York homes raided in terrorism probe

It’s too early, and there is not enough information available (yet) to say whether or not we dodged the proverbial bullet, but it is good to know our law enforcement agencies are still capable of doing the job.

NEW YORK, Sept 14 (Reuters) – New York City police and the FBI raided homes in the borough of Queens early on Monday as part of an investigation into suspected terrorism, focusing on one man who has been under surveillance, officials said.

Authorities searched at least two apartments including one shared by five Afghan men, taking some of them in for questioning, said one man who was questioned.

Members of U.S. Congress briefed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation said there was no imminent danger.

“There was nothing imminent, and they are very good now at tracking potentially dangerous actions and this was preventive,” said Charles Schumer, a U.S. Senator from New York who was among those briefed by FBI officials.

A man who identified himself as Amanullah Akbar, a 30-year-old taxi driver, said the FBI raided the apartment he shares with four other Afghan men at 2:30 a.m. (1630 GMT)

He was brought in for questioning and released and said he had no idea why his home was targeted, adding that he believed one of his roommates was arrested.

A neighbor said she saw FBI agents armed with what she called machine guns storm the apartment building, and that one of them emerged carrying a box.

“It was scary. I wasn’t going to stop the FBI and ask them what was going on,” said Melissa Khan, 28.

NYPD and FBI officials provided few details, calling it part of an ongoing investigation of the joint terrorism task force.

    For anyone who was still following my case about my visa, here it is the update.


    It was refused. The solution is for us to stay here illegally until my sister finishes her degree in 1 year... Then leave. Because if we leave now to get another visa,(we cant apply in-country) it will be refused.



    I must say, the HO(Home Office) is one of the most useless branches I've ever seen in my entire life! Everything else works exceptionally well here in the UK... but the HO has a platonic love with , muslims, extremists, terrorists, illiterate incompetent immigrants.

    I'm now looking for possibilities to go to the US, I'm sure the US wants to benefit from what I can offer; A hard working, freedom lover, scientist immigrant who wants the best for countries like the US, UK, Australia and etc.

    You're timing may be bad, Necrowulf, the US may not be the country it was before very long. If we go down, the rest of the world will be in big trouble too, there may be no good place to go A very scary thought for those of us that don't have the resources or ability to go underground.     Universities are pretty good.

    USP (University of São Paulo) is the 38th better university in the world,according to the last ranking of universities.Oxford (UK) is the 42th place.
    The best, of course,are HARVARD and YALE.
    The British universities are the best in Europe.Germans are next.French universities are
    POOR,compared with the British ones.

    The best israeli university,the HEBREW UNIVERSITY, only reached the 171th place.Pity.
  • Sounds like these guys like, Amanullah Akbar, a 30-year-old taxi driver, should be reported as "fishy" just for the name alone. But NO, do you think any one in the lousy government we have would even think a thing about that. In turn the person reporting this guy would then be under suspicion. How things have CHANGED, so this is the BIG CHANGE, huh?? I sure HOPE it doesn't last. GRRR.

    even worse.Sounds more like a GAY ORGY.They only could've missed their beloved
    Fatima,their goat and ol' Aziz,their faithful camel.

    They were found when their bed collapsed due to the combined weight of them five
    fooling around on it.The problem was due to the C4 stashed inside the mattress...
    Below the bed,the detonators,suicide-belts,a Dixie Chicks's CD, copies of the Qu'ran,
    a dozen jars of vaseline and the already worn out Kama Sutra.
